Image of former so-called Ontario Minister of Education Stephen Lecce standing at a lectern in the sunshine out front of Queen's Park. A long row of alternating Canada and Ontario flags flanks him on both sides of the background. The sign on the front of the lectern reads "The plan was always to break public education."

Dear @depthsofwikipedia.bsky.social : Louis X
Death and legacy
Louis was a keen player of jeu de paume, or real tennis, and became notable as the first person to construct indoor tennis courts in the modern style. Louis was unhappy with playing tennis outdoors and accordingly had indoor, enclosed courts made in Paris "around the end of the 13th century". In due course this design spread across royal palaces all over Europe.[27 On 5 June 1316 at Vincennes, following a particularly exhausting game, Louis drank a large quantity of cooled wine and subsequently died of either pneumonia or pleurisy, although there were also suspicions of poisoning.

Keep finding tags like this at the end of student "work" and I dunno man, maybe just try being a human. So wearisome.

It's good that our pension plan is predicated on making the planet unlivable for future generations, right? Right?
The Anakin / Padme 4 panel meme. In the first panel Anakin says "our retirement plan is predicated on destroying the planet." Padme, smiling, asks "but we have another planet to retire on, right?" In the third panel Anakin says nothing. In the final panel, Padme, no longer smiling, says "Right?"

FEEL SOMETHING IN B-FLAT, MOTHERFUCKER
Photo of a page from a book. Highlighted text reads "Some time ago, the tenor saxophonists Frank Foster was playing a street concert from the Jazzmobile in Harlem. He called for a blues in B-flat. A young tenor player began to play "out" from the first chorus, playing sounds that had no relationship to the harmonic progression or rhythmic setting.
Foster stopped him.
"What are you doing?"
"Just playing what I feel."
"Well, feel something in B-flat, motherfucker."

All I'm sayin' is, Grover's fear was palpable and transmittable. Furry meta-horror for the pre-school crowd.
Sesame Street's "The Monster at the end of this Book, starring LOVABLE, FURRY OLD GROVER." Grover stands by a streetlight. The street sign says Sesame Street. Behind him there is an overflowing trash can and a red brick wall. The book's title is written on a framed sign hanging on that wall. Grover is waving and saying "Hello, everybodeee!" but he looks kind of anxious.

TIL just now... (i know you weren't asking, but thank you for asking)
influence(n.)
late 14c., an astrological term, "streaming ethereal power from the stars when in certain positions, acting upon character or destiny of men," from Old French influence "emanation from the stars that acts upon one's character and destiny" (13c.), also "a flow of water, a flowing in," from Medieval Latin influentia "a flowing in" (also used in the astrological sense), from Latin influentem (nominative influens), present participle of influere "to flow into, stream in, pour in," from in- "into, in, on, upon" (see in- (2)) + fluere "to flow" (see fluent).

The range of senses in Middle English was non-personal, in reference to any outflowing of energy that produces effect, of fluid or vaporous substance as well as immaterial or unobservable forces. Meaning "exertion of unseen influence by persons" is from 1580s (a sense already in Medieval Latin, for instance Aquinas); meaning "capacity for producing effects by insensible or invisible means" is from 1650s. Under the influence (of alcohol, etc.) "drunk" is attested by 1866.

Distinct impression that the door of my motel room has been kicked in at least once before.

Seeing someone forcefully struck by a driver in a car and concluding that the problem is not enough helmets on non-car people is missing the point entirely.

By equating two literal opposing beliefs in the Muslim world, Bush also sowed the seeds for a wave of Islamophobia to envelop America. There is a direct line between our collective response to the pain of 9/11 and President Donald Trump. While that fateful day temporarily united us, not even a year later, we were squabbling over what it meant to be an American, beginning our descent into the intractable partisan fights that still rage on today.

This is how I would like to be remembered. #Approximators
Photo of me, kneeling down at the edge of a chipped wooden stage riser like a supplicant to the Gods of Rock and Roll, strangling a natural finish '75 Telecaster with an "Anti-Fascist Karaoke" sticker on it. Cables snake about on the ground, and there are several toy tambourines near me. I'm wearing a horrendous green and yellow Hawaiian shirt, a string of purple beads, and black jeans. My pedalboard conspicuously includes a Talk Box, the rainbow-lit tube of which spirals up out of sight around a mic stand on the right edge of the image. A red circle logo in the upper right corner reads "The Approximators: Live Band Karaoke"

Photo of a countertop ad for Avocado Breakfast Bagel which is an excellent idea except the art is a hyperinflated unnaturally symmetrical bagel monstrosity exploding with eggy tendrils and avocado tendrils and somehow the bottom half of the bagel beast is at least twice the size of the top half in a clear violation of God's Law for mortal foods.

Cool that we're doing Brave New World now.
'The case of Little Reuben occurred only twenty-three years after Our Ford's first T-Model was put on the market.' (Here the Director made a sign of the T on his stomach and all the students reverently followed suit.) 'And yet...'

Furiously the students scribbled. 'Hypnopædia, first used officially in A.F. 214. Why not before? Two reason. (a)...'

'These early experimenters,' the D.H.C. was saying, 'were on the wrong track. They thought that hypnopædia could be made an instrument of intellectual education...'

(A small boy asleep on his right side, the right arm stuck out, the right hand hanging limp over the edge of the bed. Through a round grating in the side of a box a voice speaks softly.

'The Nile is the longest river in Africa and the second in length of all the rivers of the globe. Although falling short of the length of the Mississippi-Missouri, the Nile is at the head of all rivers as regards the length of its basin, which extends through 35 degrees of latitude...'

At breakfast the next morning, 'Tommy,' some one says, 'do you know which is the longest river in Africa?' A shaking of the head. 'But don't you remember something that begins: The Nile is the...'

'The-Nile-is-the-longest-river-in-Africa-and-the second-in-length-of-all-the-rivers-of-the-globe...' The words come rushing out. 'Although-falling-short-of...'

'Well now, which is the longest river in Africa?'

The eyes are blank. 'I don't know.'

'But the Nile, Tommy.'

'The-Nile-is-the-longest-river-in-Africa-and-second...'

'Then which river is the longest, Tommy?'

Tommy bursts into tears. 'I don't know,' he howls.)

Oh man. The Smartboard revolution of 2005 did not fail to disappoint.
The interactive whiteboard industry was expected to reach sales of US$1 billion worldwide by 2008; one of every seven classrooms in the world was expected to feature an interactive whiteboard by 2011 according to market research by Futuresource Consulting.[3] In 2004, 26% of British primary classrooms had interactive whiteboards.[4] The Becta Harnessing Technology Schools Survey 2007 indicated that 98% of secondary and 100% of primary schools had IWBs.[5] By 2008, the average numbers of interactive whiteboards rose in both primary schools (18 compared with just over six in 2005, and eight in the 2007 survey) and secondary schools (38, compared with 18 in 2005 and 22 in 2007).

Just doing a little casual reading about Least Weasels, as one does, and umm... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Least_w...
The Ancient Macedonians believed that to see a least weasel was a good omen. In some districts of Macedon, women who suffered from headaches after having washed their heads in water drawn overnight would assume that a weasel had previously used the water as a mirror, but they would refrain from mentioning the animal's name for fear that it would destroy their clothes.[42]
