in short, if there's a difference to be made, maybe it's between the work meant for oneself vs the work meant to be shown to others. and by that definition, my silly doodles in the margins of notes are Art, whereas the mona lisa is merely an "illustration."

i agree that there can be a difference, except i don't think that line is drawn where he or most art snobs think it is. they'd consider old master paintings commissioned by rich people/the church to be ART, but someone commissioned for an illustration of an OC or a book cover to...not be?
