Just to put things into perspective: we, like almost every other club in the world, have been getting gazumped for players for decades. This is not new, and it certainly is not a uniquely Newcastle problem. It is simply the transfer market.

Fifteen or twenty years ago, a throwaway line in The Chronicle "Emerton on Toon radar" might have filled a few column inches. Now it becomes a month's worth of material for some wanker of a content creator, or for the likes of talkSPORT, because every rumour has to be stretched, recycled and milked to fill hundreds of hours of content and remain relevant to the algorithm.

Then you have people like Romano, whose entire operation appears designed to generate money and leverage for agents, players and clubs. It is a cyclical, self-sustaining and avaricious monster: the constant demand for 24-hour headlines, content creators desperate to remain relevant, grifters taking backhanders to inflate fees or unsettle players, and an audience conditioned to expect a fresh dopamine hit every few hours.

The reactions I have seen on here are testament to all of that. They have been disproportionate, catastrophising and, frankly, quite childish Regulate your emotions. None of this is new. You are allowing yourselves to be whipped into a frenzy by people who profit from your agitation.

Do not let them.
