The last time I was in one, I was going through a secondary/aftershock stroke, and the left side of my body was seizing, so of course I was slamming around in that tiny space. It kind of soured me on what had always been a kind of relaxed experience before. (“Try to stay still,” the tech said.)

She really is one of my favorite fictional characters of all time (in a show loaded with great characters). All of her actresses did a fantastic job and I love both how ruthlessly determined she is and how brilliant she is in multiple ways.

When it comes to a particular video game, I often refer to the two groups of people who play it: the ones who want it to be a game, and the ones who want it to be a museum. (I'm on the game side myself, but I can certainly sympathize with the museum side, if at the same time feeling sorry for them)

YouTubers: You don't understand, if I don't use AI-generated art, my thumbnails won't look good and stand out and nobody will click on them! Result: a significant chunk of YouTube thumbnails now look exactly the same and the ones that "stand out" are the ones made by humans.

It's so wild as I've gotten older and more familiar with a wider variety of media properties to see the chain of snakes eating each other's tails. WH40K stole some ideas from those comics. Stellaris stole some ideas from WH40K. In both cases the serial numbers got further filed away over time.

...so that was the terminology they tended to use out of game or while prepping for a game. When a new player joined, the vibe wasn't "what we really need is a disgraced princess on the run from an arranged marriage," it was "we could use a thief, none of us can deal with locks or traps."

"I am Thromgar the Mighty, Bane of the Six Scalelords, from Little-Hovel-by-the-Dungheap" is great for character interaction and telling stories, but usually in D&D people tried to maximize their odds of Not Dying by building a balanced party out of those "fighter" "magic-user" "cleric" blocks...

Also, speaking as an animate talking pile of aged dust, the idea that people in the late 70s weren't describing their characters as "a fighter" or "a magic-user" and leaving it at that is just plain revisionism.
