They took Android Auto from "play <song>" "Sure' - Song played. To 3 infuriating follow up questions and maybe maybe not playing the song. It wasn't broken and they haven't fixed it.

Yeah, I think your first post nails it. The "I should probably use this phrase because I think smart people do" insecurity in young students (my hands raised high), fits AI text quite well.

There is a range of academic opinions and this matter, some of which are contradictory and express different views - as a result conclusions vary considerably across the literature leading to a lack of consensus, these diverse opinions however does provide some insight into the uncertain nature..

Yes 4 is good, I've taken to mostly waiting years to start a series. I avoid cancellations before conclusion and if it runs to 80-100 hours - I do not have that much life to give any more so can opt out without sunk cost fallacy kicking in. I know I miss great stuff, but works on balance.

And you're unsure if the quality is going to be any good when it arrives but you ordered it anyway.

I mean it is all a bit Temu, you order an Andy Burnham PM and it takes 12 weeks to arrive.

I can see it. There is a big "do you want to take a bottle of vodka and 2l of mixer to the house party to share?" market to get a piece of.

There are exceptions, but in general the shows with stand alone episodes with a few long term threads perform well. And very long continuous story arc shows perform poorly.

I used to be an auditor and see some fraud as part of the job, (nearly always identified by the client). What was interesting was how many cases the amounts involved were very very small. My theory was it was akin to well off people shoplifting trivial items. The rush.

Lol. As an aside I watch Newsround most mornings with my kids and the range of ability to communicate with kids is enormous. Even people decent at communicating with adults are often terrible at it.

On classical music album covers why are in the ubiquitous headshots the women mostly smiling and the men mostly doing that weird tortured contemplating something pose?

I think Truss/Kwasi is interesting. He had to be thrown under the bus , but they were both on the same bus before that happened. And if Blair had lost in 2001 say I don't think Blair/Brown would be regarded as a strong team as such.

Perhaps although this may also be survivorship bias, as no other pair has lasted long enough.

Ranking of best to worst post office PMs. As in entirely based on post office dignity/quality of any public utterances/ability to not shit the bed. Something like Major Brown May Sunak Cameron Johnson Truss Blair The noble strategy of shutting up gets you mid table. Truss being ignored pips Blair

Tootlefish @tootlefish.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
Oh yeah! I'd drop him below Sunak and May, who got solid mid table by mainly shutting up, which is a noble strategy for a former PM.

Yeah, and healthy life expectancy has been falling for years now. This not being in lockstep with overall life expectancy put a lot of pressure on any work longer assumption long term.

I think comedy ages faster than sci if. Even the best is quite hard to stay objectively laugh out loud funny over time to most audiences. But either way Adams won't be durable I don't think sadly.

I have seen people suggest their operating model is to collapse chains and through very sharp practice in insolvency make a quick buck, and they knew exactly what they were buying. And are not dumb at all just evil. I don't pretend to know if that's true.

Gmail has removed basic spell check and rolled it into the wider interfering smart assistant with an on/off option. I rely very heavily on spell check so this annoyed me a lot.

From a practical point of view most serious contenders will have leafleted with a photo so it avoids confusion perhaps. From an emotional point of view I think its good I know what my representatives look like. Just seems good.

? £4k extra a month would fund a lot of nice restaurants and holidays. The £1m done wisely would do even better. Sure it's not pad on lake Como money but still.

It's probably reflective of my follows and bluesky in general, but most threads on this are discussing optimising investment returns long term and tax considerations etc. No one is considering how best to fund an ongoing amazing lifestyle. Which is an opportunity cost in itself.

On 1. I'd go the other way. I would buy a big house etc or something sensible with a million. But the temptation for rampant conspicuous consumption with a low savings rate with an extra 4k a month would be high.

Yeah Cameron was good at politics even if his politics sucked. Persuading the lots of the country austerity (a bad policy) was necessary, doing it hard and fast then winning a second term with more MPs wasn't something an incompetent person could pull off.

I would be interested in a 'Bargepole mostly passive fund'. Index fund with a few very risky assets excluded by exception selected by active managers.

The amount of toys in their original packaging, never touched by a child that will eventually end up in the bin when they don't in fact turn out to be collectors items makes me sad.

Supermarkets have for decades been perceived as villains. Outcompeting small shops, screwing suppliers etc. Much of which is true. But I think this means people are utterly immune to the logic that your food is cheap because of the supermarkets and they are not exploitative (to customers).

Yes should have added consistently before my list. I do get potentially retrospectively stripping titles is a mahoooosive call but FFS sit down in a room and decide. Taking Southampton out the playoff final was also mahoooosive and they got on with it.

Yeah. the EFL seem very decisive, fast, and brutal in dishing out punishment compared to the PL. Even when it's a please stop they're already dead situation like Wednesday.
