New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment. www.nber.org/papers/w35854

Taxing Entrepreneurial Wealth: Evidence from
Norway, 2021-2025
Marius A. K. Ring
WORKING PAPER 35854|
DOl 10.3386/w35854
ISSUE DATE October 2026
Whether imposing higher taxes on business owners adversely affects business activity by constraining investment and inducing capitalist flight is a central question in the ongoing debate on how to tax the ultra wealthy. To shed new light, I exploit a series of related Norwegian reforms during 2021-2024 that increased dividend tax rates, removed migration-related capital gains tax loopholes, and nearly doubled the effective marginal tax rate on business wealth. These reforms spurred international debate and, allegedly, an "exodus" of Norwegian billionaires (Financial Times,
2023). While I document clear effects on migration, these responses are concentrated among the top 0.1% of the wealth distribution and mostly confined to 2022 and 2023. My results indicate that at most 100 individuals left due to the reforms. I find no evidence of significant outmigration or reduced inflows of startup founders or inventors. I estimate that absent any outmigration, wealth tax revenues would have increased by 75% from 2021 to 2024. Reform-driven outmigration lowers the revenue gain to 71.5%. My findings further show that outmigrating owners' firms remain economically active and do not reduce investment. In a broader set of analyses, I examine whether business outcomes are affected, regardless of whether owners outmigrate, since firms may reduce investment both due to liquidity constraints or distortions to owners' savings decisions. I compare firms owned by Norwegian individuals subject to the wealth tax with firms owned by foreigners and other tax-exempt entities. By merging historical ownership data from Orbis with the Norwegian shareholder register, I perform these analyses on both Norwegian and foreign-domiciled firms.
Across settings, I find no evidence that Norwegian-owned firms pay out more dividends or invest less after the reforms,…

I thought about writing a long post reflecting my feelings on leechware(more commonly called “AI”) , but half ware through I just didn’t want to. I feel I’d just be preaching to the choir considering who my audience. It’s awful, it’s destroyed so much, harmed/killed people, and ruined trust.

I'm currently working on backfilling my website with some older art and it's been a text heavy day, so enjoy some sketches I came across as I process some art I still really like. I have a whole folder of just...rabbits, but not as big as my mice and Imps lol #Art #Sketches #Anthro

Sketch by Tealful Eyes of of a rabbit woman glaring down at the viewer with their blades drawn and covered in blood.

Drawing by Tealful Eyes of Rivera the Rabbit leaning back on their motorcycle.

Sketch by Tealful Eyes of an anthropomorphic rabbit woman glaring with a grin as they raise their rapier above their head and prepare a fire spell in the other hand.

Lago reference sheet for 2026! A young, monstrous girl with an adventurous spirit. After her tribe got abducted by a massive, unidentified flying object, Lago made it her life goal to aquire a spacecraft of her own to pursue them. A tall order. #digitalart #oc #characterdesign #monstergirl

A reference sheet for a pale, black-haired tomboyish monster girl with a peg leg, rabbit ears and a tentacle-like tail. The sheet features a character turnaround, various sketches of different facial expressions and explanations of her abilities.

Page two of the reference sheet, showing her in alternative casual outfits. More sketches elaborate on her combat abilities and kanabo weapon.

first recorded sighting of the thingamaboblin

a page featuring three drawings of a naked goblin. one is a bust portrait of it, one shows it sitting biting on a fish, and the last one shows it crouching and looking over its shoulder at us, blood dripping from its mouth. the goblin has green skin with giraffe-like spot markings on its body, eyes that have black sclera and glowing orange irises and pupils, and white hair arranged into three bunches. text reads: "the thingamaboblin. the most secretive of the goblins. its true name is impossible to remember. if you encounter it, you'll remember that you met someone, but not who it was. it's the only one of its kind and has never been studied."

Went through 2 weeks of shit (again) so here's a small sketch I did! Feels good to just let loose a little and draw something without trying to achieve anything. Good way to shake off the rust, I should do it more often.

Rough digital sketch by Tootkin of a sheep taur holding a walking stick with small bells on it. She's wearing a large red sweater dress with puffy sleeves on her human torso and a leather pack saddle on her sheep torso. She has black skin, white wool, with just a tuft of wool on her chest. Her hair is also wool and is styled in a fro with a side cut of corn rows. She has a pair of big twisting horns with jewellery on them.
