This is the full gorgeous box art that I’m definitely going to find somewhere to display when I head home. It’s nicer material and cardboard than the normal boxes too, a bit thicker and with a little texture.

I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the stickers were for this, they were divided nicely and went on flat, and have a bit thicker material and texture to them. I think maybe similar to the special editions of the Shin Musha and Shin Musha Mk.II? Either way, they look and feel great!

I posted this before but this is the Nu Gundam returning to its default pose and shutting down special operations for the night, which was really cool to see. Even if it’s just a small arm and head movement, it felt so real to see it!

The show we saw was the final scenes from Char’s Counterattack, from about where Amuro rips him out of the Sazabi and the final Axis Shock. They have different shows throughout the evening on the hour and half hour, but that’s the one we saw.

After shopping, the movie, and dinner (some great ramen in the food court on the third floor - you’ll find something to eat) we went out to see the final show from the life size Nu Gundam - they project it on the wall of the mall while the Gundam does a few basic moves!

After shopping we took a brief impulsive (non-Gundam) detour at the movie theater on the fourth floor to see the new Madoka Magica movie! Neither of us speak pretty much any Japanese, but it was still fun and I’m even more excited for when we get a stateside release, or at least streaming!

Aaaaaand then I got so caught up with shopping I didn’t think to take pics of the display stuff. They had a pretty wide selection of both regular releases, Side-F exclusives, general Gundam Base/P-Bandai kits, and a ton of miscellaneous goods - I got an RX-78-2 umbrella and a few other cool things!

I did get to see a display with some up close versions of the HG XRX and Helix from the upcoming anime and game. I still think the Helix is a little over-greebled for my tastes, but it looked great up close, and the XRX is a beauty!

Along the left side is a big set of display pillars of various exclusive kits, divided up into things like different series. The walls have specs and detail images for the Nu-FF, and while I couldn’t take pictures, there was a cool art display in the back row too!

And the shop inside is beautiful. A nice big space in the 4th floor of the mall! While they didn’t do it in the small shop outside, when you go inside they actually get a picture of your face to compare when you check out to ensure you’re not double dipping. All part of the anti-scalper measures.

There’s a small shop outside the statue where you can buy a smaller selection of Side-F specific goods and a few smaller kits. Which is nice because both this shop and the shop inside have a 1 transaction per day, 10 item max rule for most major items, so you can save spots for kits inside!

It’s hard to do justice to the scale of the 1:1 Nu Gundam statue. Even compared to how big people look to it in the anime, actually being at the foot of it is quite intimidating - I suddenly had an understanding of why mobile suits are so terrifying to those on the ground.

The Gundam Base Side-F in Fukuoka was amazing! It’s located inside the Lalaport mall in Fukuoka (obviously) high is a 10-15 minute walk from Takeshita station. Before shopping though, we went through the mall right to the big show itself! Biiig 🧵 incoming… #gunpla

I’ll look into them when I get home. My experiences with them before weren’t the best, but it was also on the Sazabi and going over all the curved surfaces was a user error. It was also on the Mechanical Core Plating which looks gorgeous but I kinda regret impulse FOMO binging on.

You fucking bet it is. A minor grail kit for me because it’s just never in stock anywhere for a good price online, and I got it off the shelf for Japan MSRP ❤️ And no! I actually already have and built that one (got 3rd in GBWC 2 years ago). So went with a different exclusive :)

So I was able to squeeze in one last quiiiick paint session - and a little preview of my plans for the rest of the MGEX Strike Freedom. I’m going to be doing half in just the straight clear - and half in a style emulating the “mechanical core plating” with chrome interior and clear colors #gunpla

…I couldn’t help myself. It was a lot of fun seeing the movie! A classic of 80’s nostalgia but also just a fun trip to my childhood. The Optimus Prime Awakening short was nice, a brief story of getting Optimus to let go and trust everyone else, not obsessing with bearing his burdens alone.

Pin and glue/cement repair of the arm joint was successful! When getting it out of the poses a few days ago one of the shoulder joint pegs sheared off. With a brass rod, some cement and sprue glue, and super glue to top it off, I let the part sit over a few days, then sanded it down, and it’s fixed!

In addition to. You still need to wet the decal to release it from the backing paper. Setter helps the decal adhere better, and softer slightly “melts” the decal to help it conform to curved surfaces, sharp edges, and panel lines better.

Also Mark Setter and Softer (or whatever brand equivalents you have access to) are absolutely worth getting, and a bottle of each will last you for YEARS so it’s worth picking them up.

A lot of instructions say to dip, but I find they work much better with a wet palette. Even just a slightly saturated paper towel on a plate. Lay the decal on the towel and it’ll be easier to tell when it’s ready by nudging it a little and won’t risk over flooding and weakening the adhesive.
