This is the last one of these; revisiting a scene I painted 5 years ago today, ‘1st June 2020 - Bus stop by Thornes Park football pitches’. I’ve always liked this because of the red of the bus stop. They’ve replaced the bent bus stop sign and there are people running in the park, but that’s about it

I was at Kirkgate station last week, waiting for a train to Pontefract. Walking along the platform I was having a very strong sense of deja vu. I took a photograph as I knew that view. Then I remembered. Purely coincidentally 5 years ago to the day I painted that very same scene.

Learning about ancient, veteran and lost trees with @tonywade.bsky.social at @yspsculpture.bsky.social yesterday.
The artist Tony Wade gestures at an interestingly aged tree. A group of people consider an ancient tree, by one of the modernist buildings of the former Bretton Hall College. Tony Wade points at another old tree. The artist Tony Wade stands on the stump of a lost ancient tree, while people look sadly on.

A wonderful find - two pieces of concrete, connected by iron reinforcing rods, draped over a branch. I’m guessing the tree has grown up under it and carried it off the ground.

Weather is looking good today so it’s a perfect opportunity for an extended walk at @yspsculpture to find this veteran sweet chestnut in the Country Park. Get a park map from the YSP Centre, find the grid reference at the Keepers Of Time exhibition and see if you can find it!

Keepers Of Time opens today at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. As well as studies of the ancient and veteran trees on site, there will be a trail to follow where you can discover the trees for yourself, and then, hopefully, find ancient and veteran trees where you live. ysp.org.uk/whats-on/exh...

I’m very fond of this veteran tree and the care that’s been taken to look after it. Even though it’s had to be heavily pollarded, it still survives. Study of a veteran beech tree at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park that can be found at SE 28541 13049 (with summer foliage). #KeepersOfTime
