The full text of Tony's recommendation is "Folks going to convention are being asked to help prioritize the resolutions we will consider during the Winnipeg Convention. Our campaign has stressed the need to deal with Canada's first past the post electoral system. For 106 years, ever since women and working men got the vote after the first world war, it has been keeping us from getting fair representation in Parliament. The resolution "Achieving Proportional Representation" would help us as a party increase the likelihood of moving this forward. If we don't deal with this logjam we will make little progress in Parliament on any other resolutions or policies.

The resolution ranking process runs from March 13 to 16. If you are a delegate I invite you to rank the resolution "Achieving Proportional Representation" very highly - I will be ranking it number 1. If you are not going to convention but share my concern that we have to deal with this logjam please encourage any delegates you know to rank it highly. Find it in the section "Governing in an inclusive and fair Canada."

I want us to hold power, not be always trying to shame or guilt those who have it.

The US. and Israel's launch into all-out war with
Iran is more than another familiar crisis in the Middle East. It is the latest step in a pattern that has been unfolding for decades. Since the end of the Second World War, American foreign policy has repeatedly relied on force, economic coercion, and regime change in pursuit of what is described as stability. Canada, often, has been there alongside it.

What makes this moment especially dangerous is
the contradiction on which it is based. President
Trump and Prime Minister Carney appear to agree that these strikes are necessary to prevent nuclear proliferation. But when a powerful nuclear-armed state launches war to prevent another country from developing similar capabilities the message sent to the world is unmistakable: nuclear weapons are the only true protection against intervention. Demonstrating that nuclear capability shields a state from attack increases nuclear risk. Tommy Douglas repeatedly warned during the Cold War that nuclear brinkmanship was reckless and morally indefensible. He understood that escalation in the name of security can produce the very catastrophe it claims to prevent. We cannot assume this war will remain contained. Iran has allies, some of them nuclear-capable. The deeper this conflict expands, the thinner the margin for error becomes and the greater the risk that nuclear escalation overtakes deterrence.

For decades, we have followed Washington into
military interventions. Each time being told they
were necessary. Each time, the consequences
proved more complicated, more tragic, and more destructive than promised. Mark Carney’s immediate support for this escalation shows how deeply that reflex still runs. Before Parliament has debated, before Canadians have weighed the risks, the Prime Minister has aligned with the military-industrial complex.

With a career that has been dedicated primarily to the development of new Canadian plays, Gil has been with the Blyth Festival since 1999.

Gil's varied and eclectic career as a creator has seen him collaborate with such
radical play creation companies as DNA theatre and The Cabaret Company, to such mainstream institutions as The Stratford Festival and The Grand Theatre.

As a performer Gil has literally worked all over the country, including: Theatre
NorthWest in Prince George, BC, Centaur Theatre in Montreal, Canadian Stage’s St. Lawrence Centre in Toronto, Shakespeare in High Park, Neptune Theatre in Halifax, the Festival Players of Prince Edward County, Buddies in Bad Times in Toronto, the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre in Winnipeg, and the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, to name a few.

Tony McQuail on AI, technology, AI and regulation of the industry:

"It seems impossible to escape the talk of AI these days. Massive investments are being made into data centres and big corporations are reaping the rewards. I think it’s time that we as a nation take a step back and consider the effects of this new technology. For starters, the threat of automation is clear, and workers have every reason to be worried about what AI will mean for their livelihood. Second, the environmental impact of AI data centres is staggering, guzzling fresh water and pumping out heat and pollution. Finally, misinformation threatens to rip apart the social fabric of our communities as we know them, all for the benefit of foreign billionaires. We as Canadians need to work from the ground up to build a movement that supports workers and the planet alike. We need to ensure that workers have adequate supports if their employers chooses to outsource their work to machines.
