Cottle seems to be upset because her experience of woke was feeling some vague sense of pressure that she was an insufficiently good ally.
Cottle: Well, one of the things that happens in these situations is that the people who are looking for change, they attack the people who they think are the problem. Those people don’t care. Like, Trump doesn’t care. Trump’s not going to do anything. A lot of the Republicans are like, “Yeah, come at me.” And so, then the people who wind up getting caught up in this are the kind of wokesters’ allies, and they’re the ones who wind up too nervous to say anything or, like, everybody had to go out and buy “How to Be an Antiracist” so that it could be seen in their house and stuff like that. So you wind up attacking your allies.

I'm with Friends for Peace, a supporter group focused on sharing accurate information about Israel and the Middle East.
In your opinion, what's the biggest thing driving instability in the Middle East right now?

The New York Times describes a cop assaulting a child as getting "riled up" #brokentimes
New York Times headline: When a Texas School Police Officer Got ‘Riled Up’ Over a Defiant Teen

7 min read

Clare Amari
Clare Amari
Over more than a year of reporting on school policing in Texas, I’ve read hundreds of police reports and talked to dozens of students. One case stood out.

In 2023, a 15-year-old was accused of pushing an assistant principal. When an officer confronted him, there was a scuffle and the boy was tackled and handcuffed.

Subhed:
The encounter moved inside the school police office, where the officer rammed his fists into the teen’s belly, berated him and slapped him on the side of the head.

"Former President Donald Trump" -- big if true!
A screenshot of a news summary on X:

Donald Trump refers to Iran as the 'Islamic Republic of Japan' and claims it shot missiles at USS Abraham Lincoln during speech
Last updated

Former President Donald Trump referred to Iran as the 'Islamic Republic of Japan' and claimed it shot 11 or 111 missiles, including at the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier. The remarks, reported by journalist Josh Rogin and widely shared on X, confused Iran with Japan amid discussions of Iran tensions. No actual attack by Iran on the USS Abraham Lincoln occurred.

This story is a summary of posts on X and may evolve over time. Grok can make mistakes, verify its outputs.

What do you mean Democrats should make 2 points? You are a senator! You are the Democrats!
Tweet from Chris Van Hollen:
Democrats should make 2 key points.

1) The illegal war in Iran has been a blunder & we are worse off than before it started.

2) There’s no good way out of a bad war. We should reject the talking points of those who cheered it on & want to drag us back into it. When you're in a hole, stop digging.

Time to step aside for someone who's willing to lead, Chuck. This is literally the first time you've had leverage since the election and you're too spineless to use it. I have never been more embarrassed to be a Dem. The CR gives Trump and Elon the power to gut government and do whatever they like.
To worry about optics this far out from the election or to say "it could be worse" is simply pathetic. If you're not willing to fight for your constituents put someone in charge who will.

I've just written my first letter to the NYT Editor, in response to Jeremy Peters' anti-trans article. It feels unlikely it will be published, so I'm posting it here so it's not lost.
Re: Jeremy Peters' article regarding the tone of the trans rights movement published Nov 27.

The article downplays the grave reality: Trans people have come under a sustained, systematic attack fueled by millions of dollars of political ads falsely portraying them as a societal threat.

In truth, this tiny, vulnerable population experiences violent crime four times the rate of cis people. Their clinics have been firebombed and schools supporting trans students face bomb threats. A constant stream of legislation targets their ability to fully participate in public life.

In contrast, Peters identifies the threat to those debating trans rights as having "to endure their unsparing criticism", and asks us to consider the impact on billionaire JK Rowling of having her feminist credentials questioned.

Trans peoples' fight for protections from discrimination and access to healthcare is urgent and just. The hurt feelings of their critics should not overshadow the existential threats trans people endure every day.
