CALLING MANCHESTER: Thursday's gig is at HALLÉ ST MICHAELS, a gorgeous old church in the Northern Quarter, just 5 mins walk from Piccadilly Gardens. Adam and I are joined by our mate, Moston legend Lee Forsyth Griffiths playing a rare hometown set. Don't miss it - he's on at 8pm! tomrobinson.com/mcr

Fair point well made. The artist (or translator) should have actually written "cat looking towards rice fields"

Oh what a brilliant thing to have Isabel! There was another bee-related limerick have that I also very much liked: There was on Old Person of Dover Who rushed through a field of blue Clover When some very large bees, Stung his nose and his knees And he very soon went back to Dover

Edward Lear was such a genius, despite the lazy last lines in his limericks. I particularly love the fact that both the Old Man in the Tree - and the bee itself - appear to smoking long-stemmed clay pipes as they stare into each other' faces...

There was an Old Man in a tree
Who was horribly bored by a Bee;
When they said, " Does it buzz?"
He replied, "Yes, it does!
It's a regular brute of a Bee."

50 years ago I never imagined I'd be opening a Welsh music festival at age 76. But my gig with Adam at Acapela Studio, Pentyrch is now opening the first night of Cardiff Music City Festival on Friday 2 Oct and we'd love you to join us. Pizza from 6.30pm, showtime 8pm £30 tomrobinson.com/cardiff
I'm Tom Robinson. Back in the punk era I'd never have imagined I'd be opening a Welsh music festival at seventy-six. But on Friday the second of October, Adam Phillips and I play the first night of Cardiff Music City Festival — at Acapela Studio in Pentyrch, a converted chapel just outside the city. 50 years of songs, and the stories behind them. Showtime 8pm, tickets £30 at tomrobinson.com/cardiff

Still makes me laugh...
Cartoon in two frames: 1) drowning man shouts to his dog "Lassie! Get help!" 2) same dog talking and gesticulating as it lies on a psychiatrist's couch...

Oh that's awfully sad. But I guess Cromer is at least set on good high cliffs. I've played the Community Centre there a couple of times recently and it's a great audience...

Actually Tim, I just checked in my dad's diary for 15 July 1951 it turns out we were staying in Hemsby, Great Yarmouth. It would in fact be years before we could afford to holiday in Cromer :-)

My brother Matthew is based in Cambodia, but visiting the UK to celebrate his 82nd birthday this Monday. Here we are on Cromer Beach, I think, circa 1951.

Did a further search from that in answer to your specific question and got: "the videos for the album are credited to Danish outlaw @louiseandtheart. That’s the animator/video creator for the “MAGA Country” song videos, including “Testosterone!”

Trying to identify a piece of instrumental light music I remember BBC Dance orchestras playing on the Light Programme's Music While You Work show in the early-mid 1950s. I stil remember the melody - plonked out here on one finger piano. Anyone else out there old enough to be able to help?

My first band met when we lived on Teesside - our ambition was to play Boro Town Hall. Playing Stockton 50 yrs later feels close to home. Expect songs from Rock against Racism, encounters with Eddy and Elton, new tunes, old jokes & outstanding guitar from Adam Phillips. See tomrobinson.com/gigs

It's the 82nd anniversary of the D-day landings in 1944. If people then had looked back 82 years for something to celebrate, it would have taken them to 1862. The year of Victor Hugo's Les Mis, the invention of the Gatling Gun, and escalating carnage in The American Civil War. #enoughalready

A good time to revist this oldie from W1A... BBC Director of Better - job introduction. The Establishment of a Director of Better represents a turning point to the BBC by placing the idea of betterness at its core going forward and beyond.
