Here's some backtesting of supremecourt.report 's new and updated cert grant probability model. Darker dots are grants, lighter dots are denials. Log scale.

Because the model is generalized and accounts for situations where only one or the other is present, it shouldn’t double count but instead give stacking bonuses. But with so few grants, covariance among variables is a constant problem.

I KNEW someone would appreciate the RSS feeds. The old internet will never die.

Was it under seal? This was the old code that predates supremecourt.report, so it’s possible that the changes I’ve made in the meantime fixed whatever the problem is.

The only thing IFP petitions are excluded from is the cert-grant probability model. There are just too few IFP grants in recent years to work with. But yes, there have been both paid and non-paid pro se petitions granted. In fact, there are 2 this term! See more here: www.wsj.com/us-news/law/...

10. I view this project as a kind of @baseball-reference.com for the Supreme Court. Comprehensive, updated every day (indeed, in this case, many times per day), analytical and numeric, and an essential companion. Please reach out with any issues, bugs, or objections!

9. Why make this? Mostly because I was tired of interacting with the Supreme Court's website, which is poor, and thought I could do better. With the help of recent advances in AI coding, what began as a project to track all new Supreme Court filings each day has grown to this.

8. The site also has a simple way to view all argued cases at the Court in a given Term. It includes the date of argument, who argued, the status, and the Question(s) Presented. Here's the page for this Term upcoming: supremecourt.report/arguments/ar...

7. As fans of John Elwood's Relist Watch know, relists are a key driver of Supreme Court cert. grant behavior. So in addition to using number of relists to drive the cert. probability estimates, the site also offers a table of most-relisted cases: supremecourt.report/relists/

Tommy Bennett @tommybennett.com · 08/09/2026
6. Because lawyers thrive on status competition, the site also offers counsel leaderboards: who files most often, whose petitions are most often relisted, which are most likely to be granted, and who is most often victorious after argument. supremecourt.report/counsel/

5. There is also a page for each day of dockets at the court. It lists all the newly docketed filings, along with case information, counsel, court below, and question presented. It is sorted by the model's cert-grant-probability estimate. Here's today's: supremecourt.report/dashboards/d...

4. The homepage provides the most urgent information: Which petitions filed recently are most likely to be granted? Which opinions and orders has the Court recently handed down (on both the regular and the interim docket)? What events are upcoming at the Court? Etc.

Tommy Bennett @tommybennett.com · 08/09/2026
3. For each of the Court's conferences, the site offers a sortable and searchable table listing all the cases, their probability of being granted or GVR'd, the counsel of record, and the question presented. Here is the upcoming Long Conference's page: supremecourt.report/conferences/...

2. The site's model assigns a grant probability to every paid petition for certiorari. The model is trained on all the data in the database, and uses many different variables to derive its probabilities. Is it perfect? No. Is it better than any other public model? Yes.

Some highlights: 1. Every petition, appeal, and application has its own page. For example, here is the page for Suncor Energy, the first case in which the Court will hear argument this October: supremecourt.report/cases/25-170...

This website and database compiles information about the Supreme Court's entire docket beginning with the 2017 Term and updated multiple times per day. It presents those dockets, and that data, in an accessible and user-friendly fashion.

I don't know if we should abandon SSRN for an alternative. But I do know that it's now essentially trivial to make a replacement, because I made one in an afternoon.

Once again the world has turned, and baseball is back. To mark the occasion, here is my favorite literary quotation about baseball, from DeLillo's "Mao II"
"Baseball," she says, using the word to sum up a hundred happy abstractions, themes that flare to life in the crowd shout and diamond symmetry, in the details of a dusty slide. The word has resonance if you're American, a sense of shared heart and untranslatable lore. But she only means to suggest the democratic clamor, a history of sweat and play on sun-dazed afternoons, an openness of form that makes the game a kind of welcome to my country.
