very much agree. I usually find myself offering the constructively critical perspective on oracy. On air I found myself framed as the defender on the panel. Was happy to do that ofc, but I tried to allude to the important work of Ian and @snelljulia.bsky.social + others re unintended consequences

As the emphasis now turns to getting implementation right, those eager to understand more about the potential benefits and risks of oracy education should check my new book 'Oracy: The Politics of Speech Education' from @universitypress.cambridge.org and the resources at www.speakingcitizens.org

Over the last six years I have been delighted to support the lobbying of the many remarkable organisations and individuals from @voice21oracy.bsky.social, @oracycommission.bsky.social, who have all made next step step possible.

Last week was potentially transformational for the future of young people in England's state schools, who received a new commitment to 'oracy' education in the Curriculum and Assessment Review.

good point - Sohm gets none of the credit for the idea that was stolen from him! do we know what he thought of Weber's use of the idea? Or did he even know?

was delighted to join David Runciman on his podcast @ppfideas.bsky.social this week to talk about 'charisma' and how the (bad) way we talk about politics shapes the politics we get.
