tomfinnigan.bsky.social @tomfinnigan.bsky.social · 28/08/2026With this kind of signage, the information content is very low. There is only a very small correlation between the picture and what you’ll actually get if you order it. I’d much rather see bad photos of the real food. 030

tomfinnigan.bsky.social @tomfinnigan.bsky.social · 13/05/2026I think whitening occurs because we clamp in an RGB representation. If we clamped in HSV or something and then converted, we wouldn’t see the hue shift. Tone mapping makes the clamping smoother, but doesn’t remove the hue shift artifact. 100
tomfinnigan.bsky.social @tomfinnigan.bsky.social · 13/05/2026This is a bit tangential to your point, but I do think it’s an unusual artifact of computers / digital cameras that we think a very bright red will eventually turn white, instead of staying the same hue. 120
tomfinnigan.bsky.social @tomfinnigan.bsky.social · 30/04/2026My favorite technique is to start with a version that is only subtly wrong, and then get further and further wrong. 6-7 is nice in that it’s so versatile.
