Steam -> GoG, with any luck.

The Tomb Raiders @tombraide.rs · 12/12/2025

Oh, well played, @tombraider.com. Lara's right pistol looks just like a Remington R1 Enhanced - one of Roth's pistols. Her left is a traditional Colt design, like she used in TLR (and also Shadow!) So the over-the-top care for detail I adore survives into Catalyst!

From a 90 second clip, the character is 90% 90's Lara and the gameplay is 90% reboot Lara. That's probably the correct balance for the /r/TombRaider target market.

Also speaking of it would look terrible on me, for Reasons I haven't been to the gym in 13 days so I'm going to go put the rice cooker on then fix that.

Merch I wish was real: accurate replicas of Lara's safari shirt from the beginning of Shadow. As far as I can tell after seven years of occasional searching, it doesn't exist as a prototype the way the radios etc do. I mean it would look terrible on me, but still.

A screenshot from Shadow of the Tomb Raider showing Lara's outfit at the beginning of the game, the "Adventurer". It's focused on her upper body, where she's wearing a really nice safari shirt.

I also did a look back on my personal opinions of Rise of the Tomb Raider on the tenth anniversary of it's release, though mine's a bit short notice and stream of consciousness. Felt retrospective, might completely-rewrite later. www.tombraide.rs/survivor-tim...

Still one of my favourite sequences. I love the song, the scenery is beautiful and the design of Lara's half-mask is On Point.

Predictably, I'm now listening to La Bruja while I wait for the laundry to finish spinning, and liberate me to go to the gym. Listening to "I Shall Rise" is slightly trickier, since it's been my ringtone for nearly a decade. I keep having to fight the urge to go find my cellphone.

If you played on PC, it's included in the Definitive Edition on both GoG and Steam!

Inspired by @jruidraws.bsky.social, Merch I wish existed: A vinyl box-set of the Survivor soundtracks. We got Brian D'Oliveira's excellent score for Shadow; but not Bobby Tahouri's Rise or Jason Graves' Born soundtracks. And all three are excellent. Bonus for including "I Shall Rise" and "La Bruja".

Of course there's this controller... but only two of it, IIRC. I'd obviously like something a little more attainable!

Merch I wish was real: a Rise or Shadow controller. I love my old Tomb Raider 360 controller, but because I always use it when playing the games - I forget how much the Xbox One native games use the Impulse Triggers on the newer controller.

Busy shopping day! Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider on GoG to have archival copies, and the Tomb Raider Cookbook because eh, why not.

The big print is done! I'm really glad I persevered - this is going to make direct comparison of the artefacts a lot easier than trying to look at them both virtually. Not least because through the power of external constraints and a little bit of luck, I've printed them about the same size.

Argh, @tombraiderhorizons.bsky.social showed that gorgeous screencap of Lara in the classic specs; but every time I tried to pick up a pair they've been out of stock. Temptation doth burn me with it's wicked tongue. Or something.

Having missed this one, I'm planning hard for #30. Let us know if there's any other conventions we should all be aiming for to celebrate the 30th!

So obviously there's an article that goes with this and the first draft is quite the doozy. It touches on some complex themes that are difficult for me to do proper justice; and honestly it's the post I'm most nervous to publish. I haven't even printed the other artefact needed for the article yet!

010 1

The Tomb Raiders @tombraide.rs · 13/10/2025

Also to be clear, I will not be redistributing this model; or the print files; etc. Copyrights, etc, etc. Plus, if anyone wanted to make their own; it's trivial enough that even I can do it.

Here's the print I finished yesterday after the most recent rebuild of my printer; the "Ceremonial Pipe" relic from Shadow. It's an interesting object in the game, but this was also a test of printing in-game objects essentially unedited. There are very few I could print this way - but this was one!

A 3D print of the "Ceremonial Pipe" relic from Shadow of the Tomb Raider. It's sat on top of a Sisters of Artemis journal just to make it stand out better than it would on my normal black background.

Meanwhile, in my office: *has significant body-type envy of both Lara and Noelle*. (In clarity, there's nothing *wrong* with my body type in principle but I'm unhappy with it and I'm perfectly entitled to be unhappy with it. Gym after work!)

Mostly agree - there was definitely some engine-polishing in those three years! Also agree on the balance - but I have to admit I didn't enjoy the big increase in "you will now have an obvious boss battle."; and the teleport-to-puzzle was off-putting for me, vs exploring your way into them.

Print complete! An interesting experiment, which I'll explain later. Running a basic PLA filament which works well but the bottom layers of support tend to weld to the bed. So more printer cleanup required.

010 1

The Tomb Raiders @tombraide.rs · 12/10/2025

Ten hours in and nearly finished. Unfortunately yesterdays big print is a 26 hour job; so will have to wait till next weekend.

110 1

The Tomb Raiders @tombraide.rs · 12/10/2025

Seriously 3D printing is great. It's also a pain in the neck, especially on a cheap printer. New print is off to a good start, but we'll see how long it lasts!

New nozzle, bowden, bed, and fittings. And printing something shorter that I can keep an eye on!

Today's activities primarily consist of: * 3D-printing a replica of an object in the British Museum (which will take the next 26 hours). * Writing about international RF allocations. * Laundry. Aiming to add cooking, and gym - the latter since it was missed last night due to work pressures.

I've been reviewing the old posts in my Wordpress drafts. I'm unsure which to focus on: "The Lara Croft “iPaq” Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness" "Pirate Radio" "Incensed". There are other post drafts in progress, but they don't have pun names so should probably just be deleted.

Can I throw in an honourable mention of my own? The second half of the Coastal Forest, at night - after Sam gets kidnapped by Matthias. It's exactly as bad as the wolfden for me: the noises, the hated "press B to scramble" message, the moment where you get trapped by the leg, and they keep coming...

The Tomb Raiders @tombraide.rs · 05/10/2025

I can't believe I didn't either! The problem is i always 100% 2013 before climbing the ziggurat, so I never spent much time in the post-game.

010 1

The Tomb Raiders @tombraide.rs · 05/10/2025

Look, I'm not saying Tomb Raider 2013 is gay; I'm just noting the fact that ever since Lara carried Sam down a mountain in something that would appear to western eyes to be a wedding dress; that there's been a double rainbow floating over Yamatai.

A screenshot of Lara standing on the deck of the Endurance wreck, looking up from between a double rainbow. Can you believe I never noticed this? It's so pretty!

My arm is still slowly growing back! I'm getting to the point where I can lift things mostly-normally, but holding things for a long time is still challenging. Sounds like I missed a few things - DRM-Free Survivor, Embracer TR spin-out, Sophie Turner confirmed as Lara in the Amazon series?

Just in case anyone's wondering why I'm still not filming: 1. INTERNET SCARY. 2. Arm still messed up. How did I do almost as much damage to myself pruning a bush as I did falling of a climbing wall. 3. My printer turned in-side-out! And it exploded. Order the above according to your own biases.
