Oh, well played, @tombraider.com. Lara's right pistol looks just like a Remington R1 Enhanced - one of Roth's pistols. Her left is a traditional Colt design, like she used in TLR (and also Shadow!) So the over-the-top care for detail I adore survives into Catalyst!

Merch I wish was real: accurate replicas of Lara's safari shirt from the beginning of Shadow. As far as I can tell after seven years of occasional searching, it doesn't exist as a prototype the way the radios etc do. I mean it would look terrible on me, but still.

A screenshot from Shadow of the Tomb Raider showing Lara's outfit at the beginning of the game, the "Adventurer". It's focused on her upper body, where she's wearing a really nice safari shirt.

Of course there's this controller... but only two of it, IIRC. I'd obviously like something a little more attainable!

Here's the print I finished yesterday after the most recent rebuild of my printer; the "Ceremonial Pipe" relic from Shadow. It's an interesting object in the game, but this was also a test of printing in-game objects essentially unedited. There are very few I could print this way - but this was one!

A 3D print of the "Ceremonial Pipe" relic from Shadow of the Tomb Raider. It's sat on top of a Sisters of Artemis journal just to make it stand out better than it would on my normal black background.

Look, I'm not saying Tomb Raider 2013 is gay; I'm just noting the fact that ever since Lara carried Sam down a mountain in something that would appear to western eyes to be a wedding dress; that there's been a double rainbow floating over Yamatai.

A screenshot of Lara standing on the deck of the Endurance wreck, looking up from between a double rainbow. Can you believe I never noticed this? It's so pretty!

Ok just this once I'll do the chain letter.

Mwahahahaha! The complete @tombraider.com Art Book collection, all together! It's amazing how thick the Art of Survival is, considering it's a paperback. There's a lot of beautiful content here!

Every single (apparently) Survivor Timeline art book in one place! From top right clockwise "TOMB RAIDER - the Art of Survival" (the expensive version), "TOMB RAIDER Definitive Edition" (the book slash disc case for the next gen collectors edition), "TOMB RAIDER" (the book from the original collectors edition), "Shadow of the Tomb Raider The Official Art Book" (Standard commercial hardback for Shadow), "Rise of the Tomb Raider The Official Art Book" (Standard commercial hardback for Rise). I'm super happy to have all these, they're so beautiful!

Can anyone fact check me - is this all the published Art Books for the survivor timeline? And yes, this got away from me rather.

Tomb Raider Definitive Edition and Tomb Raider: The Art of Survival art books.

You might call my research tonight "Booze Raider". Unrelatedly, I also enjoyed a glass of Poitín while reading. As far as I can tell, there's no published concept art for the things I found. That's fun! Please enjoy some beer and rum (concept art) in the meantime.

Concept art from Shadow of the Tomb Raider. It shows Lara passing Jonah a beer in the Cozumel bar.

Concept art for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Hilariously, it shows a bottle of rum with a simple white label "RUM". It looks straight out of Sainsbury's basics.

Weird obsessive question of the day: What's Lara's sleep cycle? Because we've seen her up after dark several times in a British spring or autumn, but there's no way she's that fit without some kind of sane and stable circadian rhythm.

Screencap of the Rise intro cinematic showing Lara walking around outside, lightly dressed in the dark. We also see her up late at the manor when a thief steals her book, and again during Blood Ties with weather and clothing that strongly suggests a "middle season" date. Additionally, she's up at night when the Endurance gets holed, which was a Japanese summer; and then again in Cozumel at the bar. Is Lara just queen of the lie-ins? Or is her real superhuman ability not the jumping or the bullet resistance; but only needing 5 hours a night of kip?

Seriously I could probably make this a full time career from the project workload alone.

Woof, the TR Junkpile is as big as ever. We have the pendant and cord, my "RotTR GPS", a green plastic knife scabbard, some clips (308) and mags (45 ACP), the zippo box and pins, a couple of "Sisters of Artemis" journals with various things in them (study notes, to be exact), and two air pistol boxes - for a Remington 1911 R1 and a Nagant M1895. Oh, and you can just see the edge of a Timberland boot.

My to-do list is really long. So is this braided leather cord.

A "Trinity" Envelope from Rise of the Tomb Raider serves as a backdrop. On top there's a few metres of black braided leather cord, and one of the Weta replica Tomb Raider pendant boxes.

When I put both the pins I ordered together you can see how small the difference is. But, it's enough to go from "perfect scale on the lighter" to "hanging off all four sides".

Two USAAF pins on the same card. The top one is slightly larged scaled than the bottom one, and has pointier wings leading to an overall wider aspect.

Hello there, Cosplay Monarchy! A web reference and my gut instinct is "Epoxy Resin". But before I pull out the Araldite I thought I'd check in with the experts. Is that the move?

Now I'm picturing Jean-Luc standing there in full thespian mode telling Dathon the story of Satoshi and MewTwo at New Island. Why did you do this?

Kirk and Spock facing each other at the closing of Star Trek III. Spock appears quizzical. For reference, "Why did you do this?" is what Spock is asking Kirk. Also seriously, Star Trek I and III are great. I's only V and Generations that ruined it (though - Insurrection would have been better without the firm boob and pimple jokes...)

Surprise bonus update! I took "Lara's SatNav" out for a walk, and got a GPS signal and fix! Looking at the data it's about a kilometre or two "wrong". Which is interesting, that's not a failure mode I was expecting.

"Lara's GPS", an iPaq H3900 series PocketPC with Navman GPS sleeve that is essentially the same device that Lara used in Rise of the Tomb Raider, minus the black and yellow paint job.

The Tomb Raiders @tombraide.rs · 28/12/2024

Final update on my random playing with Lara's Rise of the Tomb Raider iPaq. Most GPS software I've found is borked, but I DID get ArcPad running. Current problem is that I can't get a signal on the GPS sleeve - probably age related, I've never been able to get my laptop's GPS to work either.

ArcPad GIS software running with a random dataset on an iPaq H3900 series with Navman sleeve - otherwise known as "Lara's GPS from the Syria drive in Rise of the Tomb Raider."

The Tomb Raiders @tombraide.rs · 27/12/2024

Oh DANG! My rebuilt iPaq works, AND I was able to find an old copy of the NavMan GPS drivers! I have no idea if the GPS sleeve actually works, but now I can find out!

Lara-esque iPaq again, now running a GPS monitoring app. It currently has no idea where it is or what it's doing which well - mood.

Hey quick help request. Does anyone know how to get ArcGIS data onto an iPaq PocketPC in 2024? I found a video of an archaeologist using one c. 2015, but nothing more recent.

The traditional Tomb Raider themed junkpile. Today's object of interest is a H3900 series Compaq iPaq with a NavMan GPS sleeve. In case you don't get the joke, the 2015 video was of an Archaeologist named Lara Croft using one to navigate a mountain range near Homs in Syria, shortly after which she got her jeep shot up by a helicopter because her driver (d. 2015) was a greedy prat.

Ok, I confess my sins. Buying myself "Christmas presents" is pretty gauche. But when it's books like these four, can you REALLY blame me? 🪦🧗🏹📚📚

It's the same pile of Tomb Raider themed junk as last time, ok? But now on top of the pile, on top of the Shadow artbook, on top of the Rise artbook, on top of the Shadow novel - we also have the "Collectors Edition" mini Tomb Raider artbook. Because the full size English artbook is just impossible to find in 2024.

Anyone got any tips for repairing Super8 Cine cameras? My motor drive keeps snagging part way round. On the plus side - the lens isn't cracked, there's no sign of it being hit by a projectile of any kind.

The film loading guide and slightly janky drive motor of a super 8 camera. I could tell you what the Super 8 camera is, but that would spoil a whole video and article I want to write about this thing!
