SRC changed their terms of use yesterday, and released a news post with an FAQ. They make it sound like not a big deal. It's a big deal. The Creative Commons licence is gone. They claim ownership over the data now. Thread about what this means, and what we can do about it 🧵

Comparison of the old src terms and the new src terms

Jacob Geller is no longer a part of MinnMax. He won't be on content moving forward and we won't be publicly airing this week's episode of The MinnMax Show. We're in shock and deeply hurt. Thank you for your patience during this sensitive time.

Michael Tracey is actively attempting to dox Jane Doe in the Cornell 7 rape case

Michael Tracey : If you happen to know who this Cornell "Jane Doe" is, get in touch and I would be happy to publish her name and identifying information. And yes -- this is 100% permitted under the First Amendment, whatever threats or emotional blackmail people might want to deploy

"Report" me for what, exactly? Save your breath, scumbag. Sorry you hate the First Amendment so much. Her identity is obviously newsworthy at this point, and I will take extreme pleasure in reporting it. (Not "doxing" -- that's a total canard)

I'm sure that ultimately, the actual impact of this will be far less doomer/dystopian than I envision. Though I still disagree with its implementation on multiple levels. I hope that this features fails and is shelved.

Getting a single video out is hard enough for smaller/independent creators, let alone multiple versions. Realistically, A/B video testing is something that only these corporation-like creators could fully utilize to their consistent benefit.

1120

tomatoanus @tomatoanus.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

The more this sits with me, the more this comes across as a tool to give corporations and corporation-like creators (the Mr Beastalikes and Mark Robers of the world) more soft power on the site.

tomatoanus @tomatoanus.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

Just because the technology is there, doesn't mean we should be focus group testing your audience with the actual video. Make a creative decision and stick to it.

1400

tomatoanus @tomatoanus.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

On a personal note, I don't like the impending implementation of A/B video testing. I feel it furthers the push away from what the site is meant to be. I understand A/B testing to get people in the door (title/thumb), but testing with the actual video you publish feels lacking in artistic merit.

Clue (1985) walked so YouTube A/B video testing could run.
