One of my favorite features for the new BSA update (out now!) is mod quality variations. This means there's a chance for mods to be either degraded or upgraded. I set up some of the upgrades to have a chance to really go wild, which can make it possible to build a deck around a specific super item.

We added a bot that posts Steam reviews directly into our team Discord. It's really nice to read positive reviews where they really got our goals and playtime target. This has really helped us focus a bit less on negative feedback.

Yeah, I gotta make it harder somehow. Or add an unlockable harder mode. Dailies are a little harder, but probably not hard enough to satisfy you! Shiny Yan should also be banking 3 Blue instead of 1, but that's not interesting enough. I'll nerf that to 2, +1 to damage, and +1 to deployment Blues

In the new Battle Suit Aces roguelite deckbuilder mode, you can find Shiny editions of cards. I've wanted to do this for so long and creating the look with Eric was just as wonderful as expected. Some of the characters also change into one of their campaign outfits, which tickles me.

It all worked out, though. Roland was injured from this battle via a new feature for the Roguelite mode and Daring campaign difficulty: cards that get taken down start with half health for the next battle. I was able to repair him, though, at my next stop across Sector 3.

Our next BSA update had a noticeable slowdown on Switch whenever main menu buttons animated during selection changes. Turned out that our rounded button triangulation was horrific (top) for no reason at all.

I've been calling our new mode a roguelite for months and then a beta player pointed out that it's actually a roguelike and I feel silly. I had decided that progression of available cards/items/enemies mattered but it seems like it's all about the fully resetting part.

We finally figured out and fixed a Battle Suit Aces bug that was preventing Move and Deploy triggers from working after an ally had been ejected by a Scydra Tail or Frenzied Horror. This was the fourth time I'd tried to fix it, so I am very relieved.

In one of the zillion Battle Suit Aces prototypes, the cards spawned little chibi mecha to do the actual fighting. All the projectiles were fired in chibi world and it was very confusing. And illustrating everything in two styles was not one of our best ideas.

Another really nice feature is automatically providing item descriptions and abilities for artists. This way, they don't have to hunt down or ask what something does or what the lore is. This was critical as we finalized everything for localization.

One of the most useful tools we built to manage the massive number of illustrations in Battle Suit Aces was the art production sheet. We update it from the editor so we have in-game usage info and it pulls thumbnails from git. And then direction notes and progress tracking happens here.

We're into the final bugs in Battle Suit Aces (AHH LAUNCHING OCT 7) and this stumped me. The card should be able to fire! The card was consuming its own energy instead of the shared team energy. That's a cool feature we support (arbitrary value lookup expressions) but this one was just confusing.

Our Chinese localization specialist just finished LQA and wrote the kindest note about Battle Suit Aces. Preparing to launch is so stressful and overwhelming that it's hard to actually experience or evaluate what we've built, but there are signs that it's special and meaningful.

Damn it, Tim! Cards have the same problem as episodes except there are way more of them. I try to just use codenames for things but have to check the localization spreadsheet sometimes to figure out bugs. In code, this is BanditSlicer...but to players its Ripsaw from the Carrion Riders faction 😅

Now that the writers have named all the episodes in Battle Suit Aces, we get bug reports referring to those. Remembering 45 episodes' codenames was already difficult and now they have a bonus name. And don't get me started on cards!
