If it’s balanced with the context of all the things that went right, then no, it’s not. If it’s the only thing said, then it probably is.

Not on X, but I’ve seen more of it than expected on here. Don’t get me wrong, it’s the usual faces with the usual arguments (Farke tactics, negativity) but still disproportionately high for the good times we’re!

Yeah, that’s true. We’re not good sellers and that needs to improve. Fundamentally on the Paixao deal and similar, I like that we set a fair value and stick to it, and that means letting deals go. I want level headed recruitment and I think our recruitment (not selling) has been 9/10 since promotion

Respectfully, disagree. It’s provably true that we spent every penny available under PSR, no reason to think we’re not doing the same this season. That means getting max value from every deal. The only concern I definitely do share is that we’re bad at selling.

Agreed. It’s clear that the Paixao deal is there for anyone that wants it. Sunderland spent last summer paying the fees that we wouldn’t, and our response was to get Stach for half a Diarra. Skepticism is understandable, but there’s a point where our recruitment team has earned a bit of trust.

The key thing around that deal is Beren said nothing and Smyth was still denying it. Our local journos are not as connected in our current markets. A deal needs to get to Ornstein/Fabrizio level before we hear anything meaningful, and that takes a biggish deal at a fairly advanced stage.

Don’t share this sentiment. No issues on the pitch but he was angling (via his agent) for a move in the autumn after he arrived and every window since. Don’t know if he was misled, but he didn’t seem prepared to stay and do the role we obviously signed him for and we’ve had to cave in the end

Totally, I think the issue is that in order for it to be someone who meaningfully improves us, it needs to be someone decent. If we’re just talking backups then we have Okafor and Nmecha. They’re not good enough, but then I don’t want us to sign someone who is also not good enough.

Yeah but there’s a big difference between a 35 year old CM who was literally done (and should’ve been retired), and a 30 year old CB who still has a year or two at prime. I’m not expecting him to set the world alight but pedigree enough that the fee seems safe as houses.

Agree with this. There’s a happy medium. Loyalty is important. New fans are important. Should try to balance both. The timing and communication of the policy is verging on an outright con.

I see your point and I wouldn’t grumble about it, but I see Okafor as a £25m bird in the hand. You’d struggle to get his production for £25m. You’d expect it at £40m but not hugely more. So does selling him for £25m (roughly his value) make sense? I’m not jumping to do it.

Ramazani, absolutely. Okafor, no chance. “Can only play 60 minutes and injury prone”. Yes, but we got enough contribution from him as we wouldve expected had he played 38 games. Moneyball this shit, he is highly valuable to us.

I’ve read more about the Villa situation, seems nothing to do with him, Villa were fucked from a PSR POV and no one had done the maths before they agreed to the clause. Then they did the maths and realised they absolutely couldn’t play him.
