I've got pitchers of water, oil lamps, candles, a camping stove w/fuel, cushions brought in and chairs flipped. I'm ready for the remains of the hurricane to come up to the mountains. Plus took covid and flu vaccines. If the weather is going to be bad, might as well stay on the sofa.

So far this morning I've broken a cup, spilled coffee on a white rug and somehow broken the lock on the storm door so I can't open it. It's only 7:30am.

So angry! I thought my suddenly super painful hip was the problem but it is the nerves in my back! What the what? And may I just say that this nerve pain is like a 10 on a scale of 1-10. The doc just winced and smiled. Ugh.

I found my first wooly worm, Buckeyes are dropping, and the varmints are out and about in the evening gathering food for the winter. Fall is here! At the first cold snap, the mice try to move into my house. Happens every year. I'm NOT looking forward to that!

2-3 days before it cools off to where it should be this time of year and I can't wait. I am looking forward to having a fire in the evening to take the chill off, drinking hot tea, wearing long sleeves and thinking a pot of chili would hit the spot. I love the fall.

My dog notices/watches tv, mostly with no reaction, but last night when a squirrel came on, he was off the sofa and after it like a shot. It disappeared and he was left wondering if it was coming back or what. I've never had a dog that notices tv. Never.

When the Soccer grandson got hurt on the field last night by another boy, I did not get a Yellow or Red Ticket for beating the tar out of him or yelling obscenities. The other kid did it on purpose. Road Rage is nothing next to the rage of a Grandma. I think I deserve credit for that.

The tiny dog ran off with a half dozen deer, up the mountain. He didn't bark and they didn't seem to mind him joining the herd. He came home tired but happy.

Two old friends (3 really) bought dogs that were suitable for the people they were 20 years ago and now those dogs are rehoused. I told them, other people told them and they just wouldn't listen. When you are 80 you want a little cuddly dog not a big working dog you can't control or exercise. So sad

Some people might not be aware, but it is entirely possible that without Dolly Parton we wouldn’t have had a COVID vaccine. She partly funded Moderna’s research and gave the largest individual contribution to make it all happen. Just gives you an idea of the kind of person she was.

I love a lot of Dolly's songs but one I've played often in the last year is After the Gold Rush. She sang it with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris. Dolly sure could sing and she was a good person, more importantly. I hope she went in a silver spaceship and knows we all are cheering.

I should have kept my daughter's rescue dog last Easter. He really needed my dog to show him the ropes. Now he's even more of a mess and my dog is having a time trying to get him to play and act normal.

That infrared sauna is quite nice. Not sure about the red light stuff but anything that heals up the broken bits is fine with me. I think I might become a regular for a bit.

The flooding has been a nice test for the river engineers and so far, the banks are holding! Plus the dirt road didn't flood, which is a first. With this much rain, it would usually be underwater. Maybe I'll get over my PTSD from Helene.

I finally have a pair of shoes - Altra - that I can wear with the buddy wrapped broken toe. Plenty of room in the toe box and a stiff soul. Just like the med boot but looks normal!

The water is inches from going over the (new) banks of the river but holding. We have had so much rain I call this a win for the River Restorers. The carrots I spread are gone, too. I really need to hang the trail camera again.

Fizz the pup sent all the other visiting dogs off for a walk and stayed with me. I've never had a dog who felt that I was his job. When I walked him earlier, he never got more than a few feet away. They just know.

I got one of those fold up walkers with big wheels so I can still walk the dog. It should get better quickly but walking funny was causing hip pain. It turns out I am very unused to sitting around. Toe is still purple but the rest of the foot is turning rainbow colors.

Broke a toe on the 4th right before the company started arriving so I left it to everyone else. Crazy! It's really painful but the boot they gave me to wear helps a lot.

I took the grandkids to a hamburger joint where I had to download their app to see the menu and order. Their one floor employee spent 10 minutes with us to get the order right. If this is the future, it sucks. A sign is cheaper than an employee, am I right?

I haven't seen hide nor hair (especially scat) of the bear since they began work on the river so it is take-a-chance time! I'm putting out the bird feeder and will bring it in at night, hoping I don't attract anything larger than a bird.

It's 80 up here in the mountains which is really weird for us this early in the summer. Next week it'll be back in the 60s where it should be. Everywhere I go, people complain. We're kind of spoiled.

I'd become too precious about my cottage in the mountains after Helene and so yesterday I invited friends up to see it. 1 3/4 years ago, I had one surviving chair and mud everywhere. Now it is comfortable and cosy. I do still see the leftover signs of the flood but that's a me problem.

A farmer here with chickens said he stopped the hawks killing his chickens (there are a lot of hawks around here) by feeding crows. He now has four crows that work for kibble and keep his little flock safe. Is that not brilliant?

I took the boys to see The Sheep Detectives and laughed aloud. It is rather unhinged and has some simple messages that I liked. The boys said it was "all right" which was better than I thought it would get from them.

The gas logs are in - it was never a wood fireplace it turns out. It was for coal, which was a thing in the Appalachians, yeah? The dishwasher is in too but the gray water septic system is still in the works. It'll take the pressure off the ancient but still working septic.
