Journalist turned kids' librarian. Swedish in Finland. Kidlit. Vinyl records. Rather gay. Looks pretty when the light is right. Ibland på svenska. Bear with me. Always loved eurovision, not so sure anymore. He/him. linktr.ee/tobsonhelsinki 🇫🇮

Linkedin keeps nagging me I should post more but when I post my blog links they look tiny and hardly get much visibility. Why do you make my links look ugly if you want me to post?

Sharing one more painting that really caught my eye at KUMU.

40. Dusty Springfield / Reputation. The glorious and well-deserved commercial comeback of one of the best singers of all time. Uneven - the Pet Shop Boys only had time to produce the B-side - but still most enjoyable. In Private and Occupy Your Mind are the real standouts to me.

39. Patricia Kaas / Dans ma chair. One of her most obvious pop outings. I saw her in concert in Rennes back in 1998 when the singles of this album were ravaging the French airwaves. Has some truly wonderful tracks.

38. Kirsten & Søren / Sku' du spørg' fra no’en. They participated in Eurovision three times, but their albums are more synthesizer-based 80’s pop than their ESC entries would suggest.

37. Lill Lindfors / Fritt fram. Lill's best album, a fine bunch of carefully selected cover versions with Swedish lyrics. Her take on ”Talent Is An Asset” by The Sparks (”Albert är begåvad”) is sublime.

34. Karat / Der blaue Planet. To be frank, prog-rock is usually not my cup of tea but this is an excellent exception. The German Democratic Republic was a horrible country where a lot of fantastic music was made.

33. Alexia / Nerompogies. I bought this from a great little record store in Larnaca in 1993. Musically very different from her 1987 Eurovision entry but a great little album, the title track has a great Chris Rea vibe to it.

32. Josefin Nilsson / Shapes. Written and produced by Björn and Benny of Abba, this should have been the flying start to a great pop career but it never happened. Also an interesting hint of what Abba could have sounded like had they been together in 1993.

27. Alla Pugacheva / Watch Out. In the mid-80’s, this Soviet Superstar went to Sweden to cut a pop album. Very much a child of its time but has some great songs, performed with great flair. (Mixed feelings about sharing this as well obviously, but I listened to this extensively.)

26. Silly / Liebeswalzer. East German rock at its best. This album was famously pulled back by the state censorship hours before it was supposed to go on sale. In 2011, it was re-released in its original form (but I like this better).

23. Anne-Lie Rydé / Prima donna! The follow-up to her more successful and more well-known Stulna kyssar album, with new takes on 50’s and 60’s schlager numbers. Both are brilliant, but this one takes the experiment further to great results.
