Yashin had multiple PPG seasons in the dead puck era, was a legit #1 centre, led them to the playoffs four times, and even got them to the second round!

Okay, who was a worse Sens captain, Tkachuk or Yashin? 👀😂

His memoirs might honestly be my favourite hockey book

I'm not against them changing the definition of a 'shot on goal', but announcers (and journalists) making stat comparisons should be acknowledging that.

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 30/05/2026

SN keeps claiming the Habs are getting the fewest shots in playoff history over x game span, completely ignoring the fact that shots are being tracked very differently this year

It looked like Malenstyn tapped it, so I found a clip, he definitely does

Didn't the Sabre touch the puck immediately before he was hit?

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 16/05/2026

Would the playoffs be improved if they switched to 1-8 but kept the bracket system instead of re-ranking for the second round? Should the NHL introduce more trophies just for fun? For instance an in-season tournament one or maybe a 'challenge' cup (moving any time the holder loses)

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 25/03/2026

Living in Ottawa and dealing with Sens fans, they've been talking about how good their team is every offseason the past 4 or 5 years 😅 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 25/03/2026

I'm torn between how funny I think Detroit missing out would be and how unhappy I'd be at Boston/Ottawa in the playoffs 🙃

110 0

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 17/03/2026

Today I learned that having the 7th best record in the NHL is not good enough to be a playoff team

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 12/03/2026

It's a joke that he still gets paid to cover NHL games. I don't know if I've ever seen anyone say a single positive thing about him as a commentator

Good luck with that 😂😂

I'd admittedly forgotten about that, but surely the worst SG-1 episode remains Emancipation?

This will either be the first time that Canada has won men's but not women's or the first time the US has won both.

On a soft call and then a missed call. These refs 🙃

200 0

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 02/01/2026

Unless you listen to NHL.com, where the standings are showing the Habs still 3pts back, as the game yesterday apparently got them 1pt but didn't add to their wins, losses, or OT losses 😅 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

000 0

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 19/12/2025

Now go back and find all the missed calls too 😛😅😅

010 0

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 12/12/2025

"There's no grey zone" - except there is, which is my point. Applying it only to immediate action prior to a goal is forcing black/white on something grey. If a review takes 2min to determine whether a player is actually offside, it's not obvious. And your solution is not in the spirit of the game.

100 0

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 12/12/2025

I'm aware it's only for goals, but surely it should apply to a goal scored on a powerplay that came after an offside too, if we want them to get it right. Alternatively, we could tell officials to call it as they see it and *only* reverse if it's obvious (with no penalty for a close challenge)

100 0

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 12/12/2025

But what about when it should be offside, they don't call it, and the defensive team takes a penalty. Or how about when it should be offside, they don't call it, and the defensive team ends up icing the puck. Maybe we should review everything, to make sure they get it right, down to the millimeter

Ya, I very much know you care (I've jokingly referred to ATO-Cavs games as the Julian Derby) and wanted to be there, as well as how easy it is to forget one thing out of a thousand that are going on. You're just seeing my frustration (sorry 😅) because you actually respond! :)

000 0

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 13/11/2025

I get/appreciate that, but still find it strange/disappointing that it hasn't been anywhere on SDPN (and Sportsnet)... it's gone viral around the world, arguably reached more than the Jays, but here at home, most can't be bothered. Maybe if it happened in Toronto it'd be different ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

100 0

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 13/11/2025

Did you forget or get vetoed from above - literally no mentions of the game on SDPN, aside from your personal 🙃

Stick tap for David Rodriguez' bicycle kick, Atletico Ottawa's championship, and the fans sticking around for 4 hours during a blizzard? :)

Ya, did any of them watch the Canadian Premier League final, which Atletico Ottawa won in extra time during a huge blizzard? 🥳🥳

000 0

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 07/11/2025

Nothing new there. Habs have 6th most times short-handed and 22nd most times on the power play. Doesn't help that the players are all either young or hated by refs 🙃

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 06/11/2025

Trying to listen to the segments online is becoming harder and harder... A 20min clip with Frankie Corrado was interrupted 4 times for ads, each of which come mid-sentence and at a significantly higher volume than what I'm actually trying to listen to. Thank fuck I'm not trying with headphones 🙃

The Cons are reform, the Libs are PCs. They are who we know they are, a party that campaigns on the left and governs on the right. And the party that won *every* seat in the Ottawa-Gatineau area is happily fucking over residents ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ya, I'm just thinking they should sometimes start with the 2nd wave. Like if it's a 1a/1b thing, 1a shouldn't start every time

110 0

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 10/10/2025

I don't get why Laine and Demidov, two players who are clearly exploits on the PP and not as strong 5v5 (especially compared to the top line), are getting so little PP time... I know PP1 eventually scored, but I still find it weird

100 0

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 02/07/2025

All that time spent wondering how the Sharks might hit the cap floor, no one thought to mention that all they need to do is add a single 10.5mil contract with one year remaining, then just not put the Pricey individual on LTIR ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Does it count if I'm shocked to learn we still have monarchists? 😇😛 (as a socialist, the idea of anyone being placed in a position of power purely based on accidents of birth is a bit appalling ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ as far as I can tell, it's damn near the only thing you and I disagree on 😅)

The difference between regular season Auston Matthews and playoff Auston Matthews is the equivalent of a ~21 goal season.

On a scale of tire fire to great pacific garbage patch, how would you rate the officiating in that game? 👀

Best part of the result is that we don't have to listen to him for a while

010 0

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 28/04/2025

I'm not quite that optimistic (especially if it's Dobes vs Thompson), but it is worth noting that the two teams have each scored 11 goals on goalies. Washington's goals advantage is purely from empty netters

010 0

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 28/04/2025

Was there any contact even? I didn't see it in the replay

Need a fifth to match how many minutes Beauvillier should have spent in the box

000 0

Kevin Smith @tobor42.bsky.social · 22/04/2025

Similarly, I haven't seen anyone talk about the fact that teams this season are allowed to further delay the game to challenge a penalty call for delay of game, which already delayed the game.

also @stevedangle20.bsky.social clearly needs to, at the very least, (re)watch The Rocket (the movie), because the offhand reference to the reasons for the riot was, frankly, bullshit.

re: the two-line pass, with Adam asking why it was a thing. Before the rule was put in place, there was no red line and forward passing from zone to zone was not permitted. It was put in place to reduce offsides and to increase offence/excitement. (this is basic hockey history guys 😛)

I get that @adamwylde.bsky.social thinks Montembeault sucks, and I agree that the goalie choices were dumb overall, but I just want to point to the 2023 world championships (particularly given you looked at Binnington's shit 2024 stats) www.eliteprospects.com/league/wc/st...
