I know you know this but this isn't a very liberal policy to begin with. If you're in the country legally with a PERMANENT visa, your children are citizens. That is pretty damn strict on the whole birth right front, IMHO.
If you were born in New Zealand on or after 1 January 2006
You are only a citizen if, when you were born, at least 1 of your parents was:

a New Zealand citizen, or
had a visa that allowed them to reside in New Zealand indefinitely.

There is a siloutte of a man walking his dog on the dried up portion of the foreshore. The island in the distance is dark, a clear shape of a low volcano. The upper portion is framed in Pohutukawa branches.

Here's another young progressive Dem candidate who knows how to flip the narrative. Very clever to frame it this way.
Screenshot of text from The Guardian article about Abdul El-Sayed that reads:
In a Saturday night post on his Truth Social platform, Trump shared an image of himself and the first lady, Melania Trump, beside a photo of El-Sayed, who is Muslim, and his wife, Sarah Jukaku, wearing a hijab. “Two VERY DIFFERENT America’s [sic],” read the caption.

“Yeah, he’s right,” El-Sayed told CNN, when asked about the post on Sunday.

“One in which your overlords are two people who don’t like each other, but join in the interest of making billions of dollars off of you – or two people who genuinely love each other, enjoyed some pancakes together, want to come together to build the kind of America where they can raise a family and know that that family is going to have the good things.”"

This is a graph from the OCED of employment in general goverment as a percentage of total employment for 2019 and 2021. Yes that's 5 years ago but honestly stuff hasn't changed that much. The OECD as a bench mark is about 18 percent. The countries are listed from left to right with Norway over 30 and Japan bottoming out the list at just under 5%. New Zealand is way the hell in the lower end below Mexico, the US, Germany and so on.

LNG will provide a reliable back-up fuel source to manage dry year risk, help stabilise electricity costs, and address New Zealand’s declining domestic gas supply. Having access to LNG in New Zealand is expected to deliver savings of upwards of $265 million per year by reducing electricity price spikes and lowering the risk premium that is currently built into power bills.

Okay I know that I am very late to the dahlia party, but this is my year. Daughter wanted dahlias for the wedding and boy oh boy did they delivery the goods. Auckland based peeps, we have such good weather to grow these for MONTHS. Get into it! Easy peasy. 🌱
Photo of a summer backyard garden, focused specifically on a rather chaotic bed of energetically blooming plants. They are about a meter tall and covered in white and pale yellow blooms. In the background behind the flowers are vegetable beds, a climing tower of beans, and a big chunk of sugar cane. A wee bit of grass appears on the right side of the image.Close up photo of a series of images of wedding photos. Each is framed and propped to display the couple. Behind the photos is a large bouquet of white flowers including dahlias, lilies, and roses.

This quote hits hard
For years, a certain kind of liberal has either minimized such culture war rhetoric coming from the other side, or urged political actors of all stripes to ignore this, in favor of “material” and “kitchen table” issues—as though the state regarding one’s life as “garbage” has no tangible consequence, as if the terms of a fight can be determined by the person getting punched. But Trump has clarified an inconvenient fact—the culture war is an actual war.

Read the whole thing. Blow to the chest. I'm legit having a bit of trouble breathing through it. But it needed to be said, like this, on a stage and by a voice 'big' enough to say it. paulwells.substack.com/p/the-carney...
As a result, many countries are drawing the same conclusions. They must develop greater strategic autonomy: in energy, food, critical minerals, in finance, and supply chains. This impulse is understandable. A country that cannot feed itself, fuel itself, or defend itself has few options. When the rules no longer protect you, you must protect yourself. But let us be clear-eyed about where this leads. A world of fortresses will be poorer, more fragile, and less sustainable.

Um... yeah. Nah.
Rain radar of the north tip of the North Island of Aotearoa New Zealand supplied by MetService at 8:00am 21 January. While there is a bit of yellow indicating light rain from Auckland stretching up, east and west above that as you get towards Whangarei, it goes blue and light blue indicating heavy and very heavy. Then beyond that it's ugly AF with a LOT of light blue. The weather system is sliding straight down over the region so that light blue is definitely going to run over Whangarei and probably Auckland as well.

This year my # 2 is in Spain spending her first Christmas without the whanau. We made her an 'advent calendar' with 25 gifts, little messages of family and love. @pepperraccoon.com today was the first day and I'd genuinely forgotten, but I inaugurated the calendar with one of your round boi pins!
A messy pile laid out on a leather seat which includes: green tissue paper, a small piece of paper with the number 1, a button which says ROCK PAPER SCISSORS LIZARD SPOCK, a beautiful enamel pin of a takahe and a call out shouting ROUND BOI! Finally, there is a hand written note that says in hard to read cursive, "Welcome to your Christmas advent calendar. This is your daily reminder of our love you is brought to you by your Santa and (something lost behind pin). Signed Santa" The pin is the awesome work of @pepperracoon. So, just what IS the American hemisphere? Is it the Western Hemisphere or the Northern one? Or is it both and the US 'neighbourhood' asserted by their leadership is 3/4s of the planet.
A line art image of 4 mercator globes displaying the commonly accepted definition of the English language phrases Northern Hemisphere, Southern, Western and Eastern. The article from which this is sourced explains:
A hemisphere is half of a sphere. The Northern and Southern Hemispheres mark the two halves of the Earth horizontally, while the Western and Eastern Hemispheres do it vertically.
The Northern and Southern Hemispheres are split by the Equator (0° latitude), while the Eastern and Western Hemispheres are divided by the Prime Meridian and its opposite meridian, the International Date Line. These divisions are used to study geography, culture, and other global features.
