Despite collating >3100 heat tolerance records for >1700 species, there is limited global taxonomic and biogeographic coverage. The image below shows the @ipcc.bsky.social regions where heat tolerance records have been collected and regions still lacking heat tolerance data.

Of course, anyone who has been interested in heat tolerances research knows how many different methods exist. To simply these approaches, we categorized them and still found 67 different methods.

We (@alyssakullberg.bsky.social, Evan Rehm, @kjfeeley.bsky.social) created a database that disambiguates taxonomic, methodological, biogeographic, and cultivation data that potentially influence heat tolerances estimates. Here is a table comparing our dataset to other related datasets.

Microclimates matter! Presumably the southern edge of these tulips experience more sun/heat and give them a slight head start on blooming compared to those on the northern edge of this row. Spotted at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival! #tulips #skagitvalley #botany #ecophysiology

Hopefully, this database disambiguates some of the different ways to measure (and interpret) PHTs. Look at panel A in the figure below - 70 distinct methods even after trying to simplify and categorize them.

An eastern cottonwood that was planted in March as part of our reforestation project! Can’t wait to analyze the growth and survival data on these plantings this fall #populusdtoides #easterncottonwood #reforestation #naturalclimatesolutions.

First post on #bluesky. Excited to see how this digital scientific community unfolds… and if/how this platform plans to monetize. Anyways, here’s a December sunset from Hobuck Beach where I had the pleasure of surfing earlier in the day. Neah Bay, WA
