In 2005, Jason Royter was found stabbed to death in his Utah home. There were no signs of forced entry and little for detectives to go on in the unsolved homicide. But a DNA hit finally provided a breakthrough in the cold case, leading to the arrest last week of a homeless man in Royter’s killing.

Was looking for this link for ages and finally found it so I'm posting it here to not lose it - LLMs do NOT summarize. A summary strips out everything but the essential. GenAI merely shortens the text - with no understanding of what was important.

ea.rna.nl

When ChatGPT summarises, it actually does nothing of the kind.

One of the use cases I thought was reasonable to expect from ChatGPT and Friends (LLMs) was summarising. It turns out I was wrong. What ChatGPT isn’t summarising at all, it only looks like it…

Mass deportations at any cost, while cutting Medicare and Social Security—this isn’t fiscal responsibility; it’s cruelty disguised as governance. Sacrificing care for the vulnerable to fuel division weakens us all. Leadership must serve, not sever. 🌗✨
