I’ve been rather struck by the live crime reenactments all around Cologne Hbf. The scenes apparently advertise a new crime podcast but do so with full gruesome detail: petrol cans, hair coming out of suitcases etc. All in the very best taste!

I’m sure I mention the River Oder at least once in teaching every year. Therefore it seemed only right to pay the Polish-German lands a visit.

An advert from the Sachsen Anhalt tourist board got the only laugh in the Berlin cinema this evening. The landscape shots were lovely, but sadly the atmosphere there is pointing in a much more intimidating direction right now.

Have reached the stage of every good German rail journey where the guard advises passengers to have a smoke on the platform as its going to be a long delay. But what about non-smokers?!

Greeted with “not in service”, but fortunately it was just kidding. An early start on the road (rather rail) to Berlin. This may well turn into a series of posts about delays… but for now I’m leaving in the optimistic belief that I’ll arrive in Cologne at some point this evening.
