Reposted by Tim BerglundAshley Willis-McNamara @ashley.dev · 13/05/2025There are a lot of incredibly talented people on the job market right now. Many of my friends in DevRel, OSPO, program management, and engineering are looking for their next role, some have been searching for months. If you’re hiring, please consider sharing a link to your open roles below. TY ❤️ 1818793
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 28/02/2025What about the DataStream API makes it better than the Table API, do you think? 100
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 15/02/2025Wait, so ARM is little-endian? The perfidy! The effrontery! 000
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 31/01/2025Shooting some videos about Kafka Connect today, which is deadly serious business. 160
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 06/01/2025Oh, I didn't know that was a thing. This project is mostly about me wanting to upgrade the lights on my shelves in my background. It will be cool when it's done. Next up I need something that generates events. For obvious reasons. :) 010
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 06/01/2025Surely he is, but I seriously meant I was hardware/firmware hacking. I got FreeRTOS running on various Raspberry Pi Pico boards. It blinks a light. Fear me. github.com/tlberglund/p...github.comGitHub - tlberglund/pico-freertos-exampleContribute to tlberglund/pico-freertos-example development by creating an account on GitHub. 110
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 05/01/2025I was thinking of doing a reboot of mine over the holidays, but I spent my free time on a bunch of hardware/firmware hacking instead. Your site, though? Love it! 110
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 05/01/2025this is much more exciting than data streaming, where did my career go wrong 020
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 05/01/2025Any Bay Area photographers around here? I’m looking for a vantage point to capture a time lapse of the fog coming in over the hills. Thinking more Peninsula-ish than in the City. 000
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 03/01/2025@amyhermes.bsky.social just followed me. Happy New Year, Amy! 120
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 28/12/2024Little-known fact: my back yard is an airport ramp. Merry Christmas to you too! 020
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 26/12/2024Merry Christmas from Mrs. Claus and me. /cc @swimflythrive.bsky.social 2201
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 19/12/2024I hope everyone who celebrates is planning to have this awesome of a Christmas. 010
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 19/12/2024Well this just reflects my weak PLG vision: I thought you were trolling me! But VS Code and JS kinda do fit that profile, and certain open life up to LLMs. I will be thinking about this... 120
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 19/12/2024Not all of my #advent posts are for the lulz. This one gets me every year. "It's okay. He's here." 120
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 18/12/2024It probably didn't happen, but hey, it's Christmas. 010
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 18/12/2024Any positive ones? It's an interesting hypothesis. 110
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 18/12/2024Don't settle for creedally uninformed mall Santas, people! 020
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 15/12/2024"You have the Christmas music taste of a quirked up Christian autumn influencer girl." —My Stepdaughter 030
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 15/12/2024Sure! I haven't touched it, but it's hardly rare these days, and learning a new language is always fun. 010
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 15/12/2024I think all code requires this. I imagine Scala even more so. 020
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 14/12/2024"CMake isn't a build system; it's a build system generator." Okay, well, now I have two problems. (Happily cmake.org is more straightforward than this. But reading tutorials that try to tell me I am not fighting with a build system? Tim: 🤬.) 020
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 09/12/2024I think it grew out of the needs of the Git project itself, which was written in C. It makes a lot of sense when you look at the C dependency management system (which is no system at all). :) 000
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 09/12/2024Amazing! I can't wait for an excuse to try this out. 010
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 09/12/2024And now I'm wondering how big an LLM foundation model I could run on a Pi 5... 110
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 09/12/2024Heh, well, it's definitely not without its benefits! This problem I had yesterday was really a head-scratcher. What I was seeing seemed impossible. I didn't stick around to try to figure it out (the embedded systems hacking was hard enough), but...man! 100
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 09/12/2024(Also, I spend my afternoon trying—and failing—to get an RTOS to build on a Raspberry Pi Pico W board. Some things don't change. :) ) 110
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 09/12/2024I haven't fired it up yet, but I just wrote a new Raspian image to an SD card for an old Pi 3 I have—and I was thinking that little machine seemed pretty old-fashioned by now. They've come far! 210
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 08/12/2024That somehow didn't work. Git was looking around to find residue of the submodule, or something. I don't know. The whole repo was a fork of a hello world anyway, so I actually blew away my fork and make a whole new repo with fresh submodule adds. 210
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 08/12/2024Every time I hear somebody say, "Git got messed up, so I blew away the repo and cloned again," I die inside a little. You can always fix things, if only someone will show you how! Then I actually tried blowing away a submodule and re-adding it. 110
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 08/12/2024Of course, I ask this only minutes later actually to be confounded by an apparently impossible difference between a submodule in the clone of a repo and that same submodule in that same repo as it occurs as a submodule of another. Sunday hobby time is fun. Maybe submodules aren't. 100
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 08/12/2024This is the report I seem to hear the most. You might be right—maybe being better at Git would have saved the day—but how good should you have to be? Is this a you problem, really? :) I am not at all bashing Git here; more just musing on product thoughts. 010
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 08/12/2024Ah, interesting! But I really can't see a new language community coming to prominence with submodules as its dependency management solution. This must be evidence in favor of you being right. :) 100
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 08/12/2024Have you seen otherwise? They don't seem to show up in projects that have actual dependency management systems associated with them, so I don't know if they actually get used a bunch. 400
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 08/12/2024I have tried to use them in anger, though, and did not see good results—even as one who has shown moderate skill at explaining how Git works. The distribution of Git skills in any team is just too broad to count on folks being able to sort things out when they get wonky, which they inevitably will. 220
Tim Berglund @tlberglund.bsky.social · 08/12/2024Git submodules are great. They're an elegant twist on Git's model of the world that almost makes C's approach to dependency management (to wit, "What, you need more than a filesystem, princess?") into something workable. 120
