I am #TeamQuartz but my son’s argument for #Graphite is that it’s “layers of the strongest and thinnest material known to man “ (graphene) and I thought that was worth contributing. Also they’re both hexagonal and that’s the best shape!

#Cuprite may be the “flashy” colourful mineral, but I am #TeamHalite because it is an essential mineral! I live on the edge of Cheshire, and #Halite has been an important part of local industry for millennia! If you vote #Halite I will go to Nantwich tomorrow and show you proof!

I'm voting #Pyromorphite today, because of the fact that it is a stable lead mineral that is the product of fungi, bird poop and lead-contaminated soil! Vote for heavy metal remediation!

I don’t know which way to vote today. On one hand, hexagons, and on the other hand, rolled up flat sheets. Help me decide!

Less than an hour to go, and I cannot believe that #Calcite is behind! Only a few votes needed to put it in its rightful place and on to round 2!

Allow me to make the case for why calcite should not only earn your vote but win the tournament. Calcite is the mineral with the most forms, is highly fluorescent & phosphorescent, helped explain the wave nature of light, laid the foundation for optics/polarizers, and even calms an upset tummy. #TeamGypsum my collection of gypsum. More than two specimens is a collection right?

This was a difficult choice, but in the end the pleochromism won! #Andalusite
