yeah, he's stylish there, very handsome, but does it light up?! My little kid self in the 70s had no appreciation then for style and only had eyes for sparkle. #HATM

I like seeing covers with the old medicine bottles, like this one -- much prefer this to the tons of book covers of a crowd of serious men standing over someone lying down, partially unclothed, and in a lot of pain (pretty much what a google search of 'history of medicine book' will show you).
Book cover of 'The History of Medicine' by Mark Jackson. Bright yellow background, title in blue letters with a blue splotch at bottom with text Beginners GUIDES, and in center of image, an old fashioned medicine bottle with labels CURES HEADACHES and INDIGESTION. and EFFERVESCENT BRAIN SALT (TITLE REGISTERED) PRICE 2/9 PER BOTTLE. A POSITIVE RELIEF AND CURE FOR Brain Troubles, Headaches, Sea Sickness, Nervous Debility, Hopelessness, Excessive Study ...etc.

Gotta give some love to the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area! Not a national park exactly, but it deserves to be one. Here's a mini waterfall at a fish hatchery in the Gorge. My favorite waterfall is Latourell but none of my photos do it justice.

and not just any campus-owned animals, you all have some superhero donor cows and goats! I was impressed when I visited.
Picture of a sign on a paddock gate. Sign has a picture of a cow and a lot of text that starts with title: MEET THE HEROES. Cow Blood and Rumen Fluid Donors. Then 2 paragraphs about how "in addition to donating blood to other cattle, this cow donates fluid from their rumen, which is the first and largest stomach compartment in ruminant animals" then has a 3rd paragraph titled DID YOU KNOW? talking about what ruminating means in this context, and a final paragraph and QR code that's cut off at end about the UC Davis Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital's Transfusion Medicine Program.

Sorry to keep pitching Oregon tonight, but there's a fun waterslide that comes out of an airplane here. Water slide in one building, aviation museum in the next building, spacecraft in the third. Because of course you think of aircraft, spacecraft and waterslides as a natural trio, right?! #hatm

Anytime I see someone with a box, it's hard to resist asking "David, what's in the box? What's in the box?" in Katharine Hepburn's sing-song voice from Bringing Up Baby Not Se7en at least.

Seems to be mostly a payroll / financial tracking issue, but even so, what a pain to coordinate with the rest of world.
Newspaper clip (from Florence Morning News, 9/11/88, page 37). Title: Eastman Kodak going on our calendar. Text: ROCHESTER, NY (AP) - Starting in 1990, Eastman Kodak Co. employees will stop working 13 months a year. Kodak is abandoning the 13-month calendar developed by founder George Eastman in 1928. The change follows a task force report that concluded, "It's time to harmonize the calendar." The change actually makes little difference to Kodak employees except that department heads who make out 13 financial reports a year now will fill out only 12. Eastman, a busy man, probably wished he could cram more than 24 hours a day or seven days into a week. But his 13-month calendar was intended to smooth out variation in the standard calendar, in which months can be anywhere from 28 to 31 days long and have four and sometimes five weekends.

Back when Ranger Todd was Tweetmaster General of James A Garfield NHS, they were optimistic about it (despite glaring misstep of not casting the NHS staff, haha). If #HATM ever does a watch party of Death By Lightning, I hope Ranger Todd and Garfield NHS are invited.
Tweet from July 2 2024 James A Garfield NPS: In case you're wondering why the upcoming dramatic series about President Garfield's assassination (based on Candice Millard's bestseller "Destiny of the Republic") is called "Death by Lightning."
Looks like @netflix knows what they're doing.
