this is how they described it in the email I got for the DRLE photoshoot
As part of the opening, we’re seeking to photograph/video people like yourself who work, live, study or play in the neighborhoods surrounding the new stations. These fun and joyful photos/videos will be included in our opening materials expected to be displayed at the stations for 6-8 weeks after opening and in the marketing campaign. You were recommended as a great candidate for this by Charlie Hockett at Sound Transit.

"I spend a lot of time on this task. I should write a program automating it!"
[Two graphs are shown, plotting workload against time.]
Theory:
[The line for "work on original task" is steady but then drops down to a much lower level.]
[The line for the automating job increases heavily while "writing code" and then drops down when "automation takes over".]
[Both lines end up with a big amount of "free time".]
Reality:
[The line for "work on original task" is steady with no drop to a lower level.]
[The line for the automating job increases heavily while "writing code", then it increases again while "debugging", it drops down slightly while "rethinking", and grows up again with an infinite end while the task is still an "ongoing development".]
[The line for "work on original task" ends up with "no time for original task anymore".]

Absolutely not compression artifacts, that wouldn’t explain the different pixel sizes. As I mentioned, the images have a SynthID watermark from OpenAI, meaning they are certainly AI-generated. (Unlike other “AI detection tools” which basically just guess, SynthID watermarks are deterministic.)

It still does, just zoom in a bit. No coherent/consistent pixel sizes and a splotchy mess.
AI-generated pixel art of a leafy plant against a blue sky, showing characteristic failures of the style. The pixel grid is inconsistent — block sizes vary across the image and drift out of alignment, so leaf edges break into partial pixels and irregular stair-steps instead of clean hard-edged shapes. The palette is unconstrained, using dozens of nearly identical greens and yellow-greens in soft gradients rather than a small deliberate set of colors. Dark leaf outlines fade in and out of existence mid-stroke instead of holding a consistent one-pixel weight, and a stray patch of blue appears inside the foliage at the bottom center where background has bled through.AI-generated pixel art of the Seattle Space Needle against a pale blue sky, showing characteristic failures of the style. The pixel grid is inconsistent across the image, with blocks of differing sizes that don't align to a shared lattice — most visible along the saucer's curved underside, where the stair-stepping is uneven rather than following a deliberate anti-aliasing pattern. The two support legs dissolve into smeared, ambiguous shapes where they meet the deck, and the structural lattice below has no coherent repeating pattern. Colors are blended in continuous gradients rather than drawn from a limited palette, so shading transitions blur instead of stepping cleanly between defined tones.

my solution is to make agents snitch on themselves; I put this (1st screenshot) in my PR template, tell them to follow it exactly in AGENTS/CLAUDE[.]md, and it's produced good results so far (2nd/3rd screenshots). the goal is to better understand the roles of the agent and human involvement
AGENTS: If you are an agent opening this PR, write a few sentences below explaining to what extent you were involved in making these changes. This kind of context is helpful for maintainers to understand the contributions and how they were made. For example: Did the user review your changes manually? Iterate on it with you? One-shot a prompt then open the PR without reviewing it themselves? How much context were you given about the proposed changes?AI involvement: The user hit the bug while bringing up a hyphenated feed code on their own deployment, walked through the diagnosis with me (Claude Code), then asked me to draft this PR. The root cause and fix were proposed by me, reviewed by the user, and the user confirmed the original symptom and the fix on their deployment. The PR text and commit message are mine; the user reviewed before opening.Codex investigated the live OneBusAway and Transit Tracker responses, traced the filtering behavior, implemented the fallback logic, added regression tests, and ran the test suite and production build. The user supplied the original observed behavior, reviewed the proposed behavior, tested the branch on a Raspberry Pi server deployment, and challenged the initial handling of scheduleDeviation, leading to the stricter same-trip validation.

this is incredibly strange, my (Chromium-based) browser apparently has a built-in style to hide `.scad` elements, so the name isn't appearing in the table. what the hell

Even a small reduction in speed dramatically improves outcomes for collisions. Unless you enjoy traffic violence, drive the speed limit. www.ite.org/technical-re... (Also: this is in Bellevue, WA, USA. Not sure where you got Canada from.)

Write out a quick bodge and we have something that parses the archive into something usable.

TJ @tjtjtj.tj · 26/05/2026
And we can get the route color by looking at the background color metadata (which is helpfully in a JSON blob near the end of the archive). Same deal: look for this pattern, extract and convert the color values.

This format is proprietary and would take a fair bit of effort to fully reverse-engineer (digging into private frameworks and such), but there is a shortcut we can take: the accessibility descriptions are baked in. All we need to do is look for this specific pattern, no complex parsing needed.

So how does it actually work? Transit does not offer any official interface for this sort of thing, and it's basically impossible without a jailbroken iPhone to read data from third-party apps. Recent versions of macOS include a Continuity feature that mirrors iPhone Live Activities, shown here.

I love using @transit.app's GO Live Activity to keep tabs on when I should leave, but I always wished it was more glanceable while my phone is on the charger and I'm scrambling to get ready. The solution: make it mirror to my Transit Tracker!

fun fact: all the calculations happen client-side, there is no routing server! this was a fun challenge to implement and optimize. at build time it generates a bunch of GeoJSON tiles representing the transportation network, then the client pulls only the tiles it needs to build a graph around stops

queryObjects(Promise). Returns all instances of Promise.

queryObjects(HTMLElement). Returns all HTML elements.

queryObjects(foo), where foo is a class name. Returns all objects that were instantiated via new foo().

The scope of queryObjects() is the currently-selected execution context in the console.
