Hurricane Isaias is now a Category 3 storm in the Gulf with winds of 120mph. Landfall will be around Pensacola, Florida tonight, but the impacts will be felt far beyond the center. Gusts to 113mph are possible at landfall on the Florida panhandle. Surge of 5-7 feet. Rainfall of 4-8" there.

Isaias developed an eye overnight. The hurricane is now a Category 2 with winds of 110mph. It may briefly intensify into a Category 3 today before making landfall this evening around the most western part of the Florida panhandle.

Hurricane Isaias will likely continue to strengthen today, turning northeast then north toward the northeast gulf coast, making landfall Friday evening/night. Wind gusts to 105mph, flooding rains and a storm surge up to 7 feet is expected.

The Azamara Journey pulled into Newport this morning. This is a smaller ship....only about 593feet. They're on a 12 day cruise from Manhattan. Newport today thru the Cape Cod Canal to Boston, Quebec City, ending in Montreal. Gorgeous day in Newport! Low 70s, a little breezy with sunshine.

Gorgeous sunrise this morning! A touch of wildfire smoke made it a bit more vivid. In Narragansett, I like the sun popping up over the ocean w/ a cruise ship moving in. The Lincoln pic looks like a scene from Star Wars. I like the pink halos on the EP & Newport pics.

🌀 NEW OVERNIGHT: Isaias has intensified into the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The storm is expected to move toward the northeast gulf coast, making landfall Friday evening.

TS Isaias is expected to strengthen pretty quickly into a hurricane over the next 24 hours. This would be the first hurricane of the season. Isaias could make landfall along the NE Gulf coast, possibly as a Cat 2 storm, late Fri. Hurricane & Tropical Storm Watches have been issued for that area.

This morning, Hurricane Melissa is one of the strongest hurricanes on record in the Atlantic Basin with winds of 175mph with gusts topping 200mph! Melissa makes landfall in Jamaica today with catastrophic rain, wind and storm surge.

This is one of the most impressive sun pillars I've ever seen....look at that beam of light shining straight up into the sky! I think this may be a contender for a Top 12 Sunrise for 2025. Perfect recipe for a pretty sunrise: mid level clouds with a break on the horizon.

EARTHQUAKE: Did you feel this small earthquake in Rhode Island last night? A magnitude 1.8 quake was centered about 3 miles east of Narragansett around 11:36PM. Felt in Warwick, South Kingstown and Newport.
