How that supposed "bargain" has played out in the state which has most embraced 287(g) Task Force Model agreements, the moment ICE had the money to not have to rely SOLEY on those state and local law enforcement officers it had deputized. Always was going to be "And", not "Or".

It also just (obviously) does not involve anything like what Millsaps claims. The cops aren't "assisting them in applying for" a U visa, and they're not getting trained on that as part of 287(g). They're providing evidence, requested by the victim/applicant, as part of their application process.

As part of the application process, you need to submit a certification from the law enforcement agency documenting the crime, how the applicant assisted in the investigation, etc. Now, I'm not a lawyer but I can confidently say that has absolutely NOTHING to do with the 287(g) program.

Still not over this, quite possibly the sleaziest comment from a cop re: 287(g) that I've read...and I've read a lot. If you know anything about U visas, the basic idea is that an undocumented victim of a crime who helps police with an investigation should be protected from removal.

NEW: The Supreme Court, over the objections of the 3 liberal justices, grants a stay in the D.V.D. litigation, authorizing the Trump admin to resume third country removals without any notice to people being sent to countries they've never been to. The Court also agrees to hear the case in December.
