:)
The "Looks like meat's back on the menu, boys!" meme, using the still from the Lord of the Rings movie depicting the orc leader (?) saying this to his troops, except I replaced the word "meat" with a small wall of text saying "regular, productive sessions of game development and prolonged reduction of anxiety/stress in my life is"

hello publisher. yes, thank you for your time. okay, here is my pitch: Terrible Indie Game. it's a card-collector roguelike with inconceivably massive skill trees. it's a few years behind on the zeitgeist for every possible design trend. every joke is dated to february of 2009. i need $200,000. thx.

Hey indie devs. Any tips on how to maintain creative momentum even when you're not "feelin' it"? I know steady, consistent progress is the key to *everything* but I find it difficult in those times when "real life" is wearisome and mentally draining. 😔

Wow! I can't believe the difference the NVIDIA DLSS 5 made for Octobug, it's never looked better! Digital Foundry calls this a "revolutionary innovation"!
A screenshot of the indie game Octobug, depicting Webster the spider holding a shotgun on a platform while a fly is nearby. Kill count is at zero.A mock-up of the same Octobug screenshot, except Webster is now a purple tarantula and the fly enemy is a slightly edited photo of a real housefly. The pixel art has been replaced with weird textures.

One not-insignificant motivation for me, as a free-time indiedev -- I really want my kids to see their dad succeed at creative endeavors.

so uhhh the creator of Wordle released a new game called Parseword and, spoiler alert, if you enjoy that sort of 'cryptic crossword' thinking -- you'll be ready for my upcoming game Shplief (in fact Shplief will be way easier lol)

if YOU can identify at least two of these icons then congrats: YOU will be ready for Shplief! #SHPLIEF #SHPLIEF #SHPLIEF #SHPLIEF
An image of twelve 64x64 icons, each intended to represent a word. The objects are: Shark, Diamond, Sponge, Frame, Slingshot, Chainsaw, Camera, Dart, Puzzle, Whisk, Trident, Hike (Hiker? hm maybe that last one's not real intuitive)

An example of whimsy in games that I am always delighted to remember: The celebratory ostrich in Championship Bowling (NES). How strange! How random! How wonderful!

In the game Shplief, you will solve puzzles, and each puzzle will be numbered and have a title. Similar to a crossword, some answers you may derive merely from the clue given. Others, you will likely figure out from the options provided. And some will just feel unfair! 😁
A menu screenshot from the in-development game Shplief, a casual puzzle title. Listed in the image are a series of numbered puzzle titles, such as "84. Crying Drop" and "90. An Uncommon Insult" and "100. Usually Two Or Four". Each corresponded to a puzzle in the game.

An in-development screenshot (cropped) from budget puzzle game Shplief, depicting several letter-icons on the left side of the image (C, Q, N, T, V, other partials) while the right side of the image has clusters of small creatures like some beetles, some spiders, some bees, a moth, some ants, etc.

One fun thing about game development: Every once in a while you have an idea (not a game concept, more of a mechanical thing), and you realize you're not sure if you can do it -- and there's only one way to find out. Put it in and try! And it's fun. 🙂

So I'm working on a weird little game called Shplief. Started in October. Casual budget puzzler, touch/mouse controls. Pretty simple, modest scope. My goal was to put 200 puzzles in there for people to solve. I am at 71... a release by the end of the year feels realistic! 😊
An in-development screenshot of weird little budget puzzle game called Shplief, depicting a field of word-unit icons (monkey, moose, nose, kazoo, pear, cookie, ball, male, gear, alien, Earth, basket, green, egg, motorcycle, etc.) along with the clue for this puzzle number 45: "Dunk Sport"

To the gentle gamers of Bluesky. I need your help with a very unique and specific question. What are you favorite videogame transitions/doors ex: the elevator in cyberpunk, the metro the checkpoint before dogtown The vault door in fallout etc.

VIVIFY VISUAL VOCABULARY!! (i don't think all of these are going to make the cut, but if *you* feel like you can identify most of these icons as the single word they're supposed to represent -- then YOU are ready for Shplief!) #Shplief
An array of icons, each 64x64 pixels in size, each intended to convey a single word. Common, easy-to-recognize objects (such as a hot dog, arrow, wine, crayon, spoon, glue, giraffe, penguin, baseball, pill, etc.) are represented, along with a handful of others that might not immediately be grasped (kick, wolf, birdhouse, rock, lighter, etc.).
