Living moss, air plants, and other greenery make up a headdress and body armor draped on an ebony female mannequin. This piece is part of an exhibit at the Sturt Haaga Gallery within the grounds of Descanso Gardens in La Canada. The exhibit is called "Daphne's Wardrobe: Metamorphosis Into Nature." This particular piece is created by Melissa Meier and the exhibit wall states: "The difference in Meier's armor is that it is not modeled on male battle attire but on a transfiguration into nature, becoming one with it."

When Tiny Lantern visited this exhibit, a worker was gently spraying the piece with a fine mist of water.

This exhibit runs until June 1, 2025.

Why do so many “pretty” journals lay dormant? Because the spine is too firm. The pages are too small. And pen against paper doesn’t glide. To commit to journaling, it must FEEL good. Stalogy soft notebooks, made in Japan, are a TL favorite. What's yours?

"Yarn storming" may be one of the coziest forms of street art. #artoftheday

A stripped and brightly colored sweater covers the entire trunk and branches of a tall weeping willow in early spring. Camera is angled up at the tree so the sky and tiny new leaves are visible. The rainbow sweater was knit by Ute Lennartz-Lembeck in the German town of Velbert. A term used for this kind of art is "knitting graffiti” or “yarn bombing.” The start of this movement has been attributed to Magda Sayeg, from Houston. And now it's worldwide.

Diane and Leo met at Parsons School of Design in 1954. Before dating, they were fans of each other's work and this admiration started a life-long collaboration of illustrating books.
