First phase of meal prep, done: Chicken Tonight Hawaii and a chicken pilav sauce. Overslept by a lot today 🫣, so the other two dishes (a slowcooker curry, chicken yassa) will have to wait until tomorrow. I did already cut a lot of the vegetables for that though. 🍽️ 🍜

I can't remember my asters ever blooming this much in the five years I've had them, it's so pretty! 😍 🌱

I really shouldn't have ordered more cross stitches, but I couldn't resist trying one of those "photo to cross stitch" from AliExpress. And I really had the perfect picture for it. Verdict: not too bad, I will be replacing some "black" areas with a very dark green. Now I want to start this one! 🤭
A square 40x40 cm stamped cross stitch on 16ct white Aida cloth. If you squint, you can recognize a butterfly. The flosses that came with the set. The colors do seem to match the original picture quite nicely. The original image I sent the seller. It shows a red admiral butterfly sitting on light purple buddleia flowers.

This chunk of orange is a "vegetarian filet americain" 🍜🍽️. It's been tasted and deemed okay-ish, but the seasoning needs work. I followed a recipe this time, but next time I may just use the kinds of seasoning that's usually used for the meat-based kind.

My Q-snap and hoop stand aren't just great for cross stitch, when combined with a few sheets of paper and a skimmer it also makes a nice portable tool to track an eclipse without the paper blowing away 🤣
A cluttered little outside table, with cups, snacks, drinks, and in the middle is my nurge embroidery hoop lap stand holding a Q-snap with white paper. On the paper, the shadow of a skimmer is visible, the holes not being round but dented, showing the progress of the solar eclipse.

Time for more garden visitor pictures 😃🌱 The count so far is 36 different species of insects photographed and identified this year, and I've also seen quite a lot that were too fast or too tiny to photograph well enough.
A close up of what I think is a silver-studded blue, a kind of small butterfly, sitting on a purple small scabious flower. A close up of a grayling, a kind of small butterfly, sitting on white buddleia flowers. A close up of a vagrant darter, a kind of dragonfly. It's sitting on the dried-up stem of an allium that has long since stopped flowering. A close up side view of a zebra jumping spider. It's sitting on the stem of a pink dahlia flower, part of the flower is visible in the background.

I finally 'caught' a peacock butterfly! 🌱😀 (A reasonable picture of one, no butterflies were harmed). I've seen these flying around in my yard all week, sometimes three at a time, and all earlier attempts failed: flew away, wings closed, the light hitting wrong so looking almost entirely black...

I found even more insects in my garden. Hunting them down for pictures is fun! 🌱 And these are only the ones I could get pictures of. There's at least 2 kinds of butterfly, another kind of moth, another kind of ladybug and a cricket I haven't managed to capture on camera yet. 😊

The garden is good these days! 🌱 Ants have started farming aphids again, so there are a lot of marmalade hoverflies too: Their larvae feed on aphids. There was a red admiral, I finally managed to take an image of and identify the mint moth, and I found an insect having a drink. 🌞

My sincere apologies to these two, who got caught up in my attempts to water my plants. The butterfly got hit with the spray from the hose more than once and the spider had its web destroyed. I didn't see it before aiming a watering can right through it to water the potted plant it was inhabiting. 🌱

Gardening post! 🌱 Backyard: Coreopsis blooming, Coleus is pretty orange/red, the first blueberries are almost pink+ripe! Front yard: Armeria, another creeping thyme, and Buddlejas started blooming. The California poppies are still going, insects are chilling out, and the sunflowers are making buds.

I went with a flamingo as my next cross stitch project. I want something bright after all the muted blue and grey tones from the penguins, though I will probably regret it once I reach the sea of pink in this one 🫣. First 21 bright orange stitches done, only 37615 stitches to go! 🧵 🪡 🧶

While the penguins cross stitch is soaking in water, I'm trying to choose a next project. Finish the dinosaur forest (from owlforest)? One of three other owlforest patterns I have patterns+supplies for? One of the four stamped kits? I'm leaning towards flamingo, just because it's so summer-y.🧵 🪡 🧶
Two cross stitch kits, both featuring magnolia flowers. These are massive, 50 by 70 cm each. Two smaller cross stitch kits, both 40 by 40 cm, one showing a flamingo and theol other a yellow cup, an open book and a blue blanket on a different shade of blue background.

There's so much color in the front yard again😀 🌱 Especially happy to see the california poppies pop up again after sowing some seeds last year, and seeing the white puncushion flower bloom, as that one didn't bloom at all when I planted it last year!

Spent time restocking the freezer today. Four different meals, 19 portions. Three of them are stock favorites, the fourth is a new dish, with radishes, chicken and potatoes from the oven. To be served chilled with an orange juice and mustard dressing. 🍽️ 🍜

Did a whole bunch of 'baking' over the past three days. It was good to spend some time in the kitchen again ☺️. The result: two sorts of no-bake cream cheese cakes for Mother's Day last Sunday, and a small pound cake + no-bake lemon curd cakes as a treat for coworkers tomorrow. 🍽️🍜
Four cream cheese cakes in a container, seen from almost directly above. They're 7cm in diameter and each is topped with half a strawberry, in quarters and a bright green gelatin.Four cream cheese cakes in a container, seen from almost directly above. The Burger King logo - a stylised hamburger made of two flattened orange semi-circles, red text in the middle and a tagline beneath in brown text, all on a beige background. Except I've replaced the middle text with two dots and written "!H" for the tagline so that when you flip it over (as I have done), it appears to be a big smiling face with "Hi" written above it.

I really almost chickened out when I saw how much this was, afraid of wouldn't fit in the freezer🫣... But it seems 20kg of chicken fits just fiiine, with room to spare. Ready for a few rounds of meal prepping to come now. 🍽️ 🍜
An open rectangular box containing 10kg of chicken thigh fillets, and a big, translucent blue plastic bag filled with 10kg of chicken breast fillets. They're both so big they cover the surface of the stovetop they're on almost entirely. A picture of a freezer drawer, about three quarters filled with stacks of ziplock bags filled with portions of 800 and 400 grams of the chicken thigh fillets, uncut pieces. Each bag has the contents + today's date written on it. Another freezer drawer, also about three quarters filled with the chicken breast. The breasts are cut into small pieces/cubes, and also in 400/800 gram sized portions in ziplock bags.

Well, this was a disappointment! Tried baking bread using one of my cast iron pots as a "shape". Changed nothing else, followed the instructions on the box mix just like usual... But the bread just isn't "done". Tried to cut it and the crust is rock hard but raw dough just stuck to the knife 😞🍜🍽️

Time to start restocking the freezer meals. Made six servings of the chicken-apple slowcooker curry (forgot to take a picture while it was still in the slowcooker) and six servings of spicy green beans, chicken and baby potatoes (one eaten as tonight's dinner already). 🍽️ 🍜 😋
A wok filled to the brim with chicken, green beans and baby potatoes. Everything has a orange-brownish hue, due to being seasoned with (amongst other things) kecap and sambal. 11 Ikea pruta containers (square, 0,6L) with yellow lids, one stack of five filled with the green bean dish from the other picture, the other two stacks of three filled with the chicken apple curry.

There's been a few days of good weather, so a lot of the bulbs I've planted over the years are flowering again! 🌱 🌼 The flowers are popular with bumblebees too, I counted at least three hiding in the crocuses and one in the irises. I think they might be sleeping?🐝

I'm ready to start the next cross stitch. This one is bigger than the hedgehog and needs to be finished by June as I want to make it a birthday gift for the awesome brother that made me a 3D printed attachment for my embroidery stand, so it can hold plastic snap frames too. ☺️🧶🧵🪡

The last bit of cross stitch from 2025. The project I started yesterday to bring to my parent's place. Didn't actually get a whole lot done because we also spent a lot of time playing boardgames together, but still pleased with the progress! 🧵 🧶 🪡

Spent all day yesterday "cross stitching" without making a single cross stitch. 😆 I detangled and wound all the old flosses I had stored in a ziplock bag on bobbins and cut (and split most of) the thread for a new project I brought along to my parent's place where I am spending most of today. 🪡 🧶 🧵
A plastic box with 63 bobbins of different colors of embroidery thread/floss, on their side so the color of the floss clearly shows (as these don't have color numbers). Also 11 bobbins that do have numbers, so they're upright. At the side, some supplies like scissors and needles are stored.A rectangular, pinkish plastic organizer with 37 numbered holes. 24 of them have thread of different colors attached.

Today's crafting wasn't cross stitch but only half stitches. On plastic canvas. It's supposed to become a little 3D Christmas train and wagon. It looks simple but it is actually a bit more challenging than cross stitch, as the back will be visible so needs to look presentable as well. 😅 🪡 🧶 🧵
Two vaguely train shaped pieces of plastic canvas, all red with a geen stripe and some white near what will be the roof of the cabin. Also, two floor plates, one for the engine and one for the cart, all red.The same pieces as the other picture, flipped over to show the back. There are some flaws on the floor plates but the important bits are good.

Keeping the momentum going. Pens with ink that can be erased with heat arrived today, so I decided to try them out on a biscornu kit I still had to do. The grid really helps a lot, I got quite a bit done already.
Two squares of Aida cloth, both with a grid drawn on them. Both have a thin pink outline of backstitching and a row of purple cross-stitching inside that. The one on the right also shows a full quarter of the geometric purple stitching is done, and another quarter is started.

Finished this weekend. Two cheap crochet kits, enough material to make a third. Never again though, the yarn sometimes just fell apart and the written pattern was very unclear, forcing me to use the much slower tutorial videos. I did write my own notes, so I can make proper ones to gift. 🧶

Finally tried the last of my birthday gifts: a pin loom. I love it! Less than 30 minutes to make this square, and that is while reading the instructions too. I thought I needed thicker yarn, but the look and feel of this single square make me think more of them will make an awesome light scarf! 🪡 🧶

Besides weeds, there's also quite a few things growing/blooming in the garden right now. The ones below are the result of a flower mix I have sown. The orange flowers are so bright that my camera had a hard time focusing! The flowers seem to be popular with the local insect population as well. 🌱
A very, very bright orange flower. It's so bright that the camera had trouble focusing, and the flower looks almost one-dimensional. A close-up of a bumblebee in a bright pink flower. There's some spare room in the freezer after two weeks of eating meal-prepped dinners. I'll fill it with Dutch babi pangang this weekend, which means I also need a Dutch 'version' of acar to go with it. So, I made a lot of acar today, it's pickling in the fridge right now. 🍽️ 🍜
