I keep coming back to the insanity of this statement from an ICE official, which would sound like something out of 1984 except lacks Orwell's sense of irony and self-awareness www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...
So far, the Trump administration has provided only weak evidence that any of the men condemned to a foreign prison notorious for human-rights violations was guilty of anything. The administration’s defense of its actions, according to the declaration made by an ICE official, Robert Cerna, is that “the lack of specific information about each individual actually highlights the risk they pose. It demonstrates that they are terrorists with regard to whom we lack a complete profile.” In other words, the lack of evidence against these men is just further proof that they’re guilty.

Gavi acknowledges that the PCV rollout has room to improve, but the impact is huge: 1.2 million children's lives were saved by preventing pneumonia through the rollout of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in low-income countries from 2009-2023. Under-5 deaths from pneumonia were almost cut in half.

PCV was introduced in high income countries years earlier: this is the fatal divide in access to medicines that we speak of, and that the world shouldn't tolerate but does. In Canada, pneumococcal vaccination is part of the routine immunization schedule for kids and older adults. It saves lives.

A screenshot of a group chat where Pete Hegseth provides a team update on a military strike mission. He confirms that the weather is favorable and CENTCOM has given the go-ahead. The timeline includes:

1215 ET: F-18s launch (1st strike package)

1345 ET: "Trigger Based" F-18 strike window starts; drones also launch

1410 ET: More F-18s launch (2nd strike package)

1415 ET: Strike drones on target (first bombs expected)

1536 ET: Second F-18 strike starts; first sea-based Tomahawks launched

He notes that OPSEC is clean and wishes "Godspeed to our Warriors." JD Vance responds by saying he will pray for victory. Later, Michael Waltz confirms that a targeted building collapsed, identifying the top missile operative as being inside. JD Vance initially asks for clarification and later reacts with "Excellent."A screenshot of a group chat showing messages of congratulations following the military strike. Michael Waltz reacts with fist bump, U.S. flag, and fire emojis. MAR praises Pete Hegseth and his team, while Waltz acknowledges the team in MAL. Other members, including S.M. and Pete Hegseth, commend CENTCOM for precise execution. Susie Wiles sends blessings to those in the theater. Steve Witkoff reacts with praying hands, flexed arm, and U.S. flag emojis. TG concludes with "Great work and effects!"

The Atlantic just published all of the messages from the signal chat. archive.ph/ta6gH
A screenshot of a messaging group named "Houthi PC small group" with 19 members. The group was created one week ago, and a disappearing message time of one week is set. The image shows a message from Michael Waltz stating that they are establishing a principles group for coordination on Houthi-related matters over the next 72 hours. He mentions that his deputy, Alex Wong, is forming a "tiger team" at the deputies/agency Chief of Staff level to follow up on a Sit Room meeting from that morning. He adds that action items will be sent out later in the evening.
A screenshot of a group chat where Michael Waltz informs the team that they should have a statement of conclusions with taskings based on presidential guidance. He discusses notification lists for allies and partners and mentions the Joint Staff will provide a sequence of events. JD Vance expresses concerns about the impact of the decision, citing economic risks and potential inconsistencies in messaging. Joe Kent adds that there is no urgency in the timeline and that Israel may act first. John Ratcliffe, from a CIA perspective, suggests that delaying the decision could help refine intelligence on Houthi leadership.A continuation of the group chat where Pete Hegseth acknowledges concerns but argues for decisive action to restore freedom of navigation and deterrence. He warns that waiting could lead to leaks or Israel taking preemptive action. Michael Waltz follows up with trade statistics, explaining that European navies lack the capability to counter Houthi threats and that the U.S. would need to intervene eventually.
A screenshot of a group chat discussing the decision to reopen or keep sea lanes closed. Michael Waltz states that the U.S. is the only country with the capability to manage the situation and emphasizes the need for Europe to invest in its defense. JD Vance responds to Pete Hegseth, agreeing to proceed but expressing frustration over bailing out Europe. He also stresses the importance of tight messaging and minimizing risks to Saudi oil facilities. Pete Hegseth shares his frustration over European reliance on the U.S. but supports moving forward with the decision, noting that POTUS still retains 24 hours for a final decision. S.M. adds that while the president has given the green light, the U.S. should clarify its expectations from Egypt and Europe in return, suggesting that economic gains should be extracted for restoring freedom of navigation. Pete Hegseth agrees.
