Ah yes, the political genius of telling parents who are doing it tough to "just be better". Absolutely asinine. www.stuff.co.nz/politics/360...

Luxon on school lunches: Make a Marmite sandwich
The Prime Minister has suggested parents dissatisfied with school lunches should "make a Marmite sandwich and put an apple in a bag."

Everybody worried that Trump is the next fascist when really Elon is the new Mao initiating the "Great Leap Forward". Consider this quote on the events that lead to the Great Leap from Kenneth Lieberthal's 'Governing China: From Revolution Through Reform'...

What would a TV ad promoting alternatives to driving look like? What if people who love cycling and progressive transportation reclaimed ideas like freedom, independence and even patriotism? We decided to give it a shot. Check out our new video, "America, It's Just Like Riding a Bike."

Remember when Xitter was a place where people would boil down complex subjects to simple language for the masses? We are back and better than ever.

If "America" is a feminine name ending in 'a', and Mexico is a masculine name ending in 'o'... Did the "Gulf of America" just change their name and gender?

"We need a Government that takes responsibility for what’s happening on its watch. There need to be swift and serious consequences for offending in our communities. New Zealanders deserve safer communities." - ACT Party Law and Order policy.

Cities that only deliver "the basics" are failed cities. The whole purpose of bringing all those people together is to do better than "basic".

Kinda weird how the U.S. is the only country with a serious Fentanyl epidemic. It's almost like it's an outcome of U.S. policy settings.

Your regular reminder that New Zealand already has the ability to rapidly and massively reduce climate-damaging pollution, and that if we did so, it would be a huge boost for the economy. Politicians are choosing not to do so because their supporters would lose money, not because it can't be done.

If you hadn't told me this was some CIA sabotage manual, I would have thought it was in-house policy for Auckland Transport.

Humble view on e-bikes: Speed limit e-assistance to 25km/h (15mph). No other regulation is both workable and effective.

"Reality has a left-wing bias" At some point we need to have the conversation around how right-wing political leanings are a sign of mental illness: Delusion, paranoia and sociopathy.

I can quit most apps, but Instagram still fills a particular niche for me. A simple way to share daily images of life so that those interested can see them. What's the best Insta-killer?

You're going to see a lot of "Well the homes shouldn't be there" takes as climate breakdown occurs. It's a bad take, and here's why: Today it's Malibu, but most commonly I see it when homes are destroyed by waterways reasserting themselves across floodplains, such as recently in Valencia...

Funny thing is that Gary Holmes and the Dom Rd Business Association railed against surface light rail through their neighbourhood. This lead to political direction to tunnel the ALR proposal, which ultimately killed the project and left Dom Rd with nothing. www.scoop.co.nz/stories/BU24...

"Affordable housing" isn't something that gets built. Affordability is what happens to existing housing stock when newer, more expensive homes become available for the people who can afford them—provided the total number of homes increases. Build more housing, not cheap housing.

As a New Zealander currently overseas, what I really want New Zealanders to know is: Inflation was high everywhere. Skyrocketing unemployment and business closures are a uniquely NZ thing. The first was due to global economic conditions, the second is a direct result of NZ government policy.

There's something almost every transport commentator gets wrong about what's happened in Toronto. Most believe it is because Doug Ford is vindictive or egotistical. That may be true, but that is not why this policy was written and adopted... 1/3

13 months ago I stopped using BlueSky (and Twitter!)... But now I'm back! Like others, I crave those constructive interactions we once found online. I'm currently in Mexico as part of a journey cycling from Alaska to Argentina, but that doesn't stop me from having opinions on stuff.
An image taken from behind the handlebars of a bicycle. The bicycle is travelling on a rough dirt road in a placr that is dry and arid. There is a blue sky and bright sun above.

Our transport system is chronically underfunded. We need to charge drivers more to achieve our climate goals. Will our transport agencies be able to connect the dots?

People think gentrification means "pricing people out of their neighbourhood." What gentrification really means is "not building enough homes in the places where people want to live."
