I did so much prep work on my #Shadowdark west marches campaign today, everybody clap for me! #ttrpg

TimmyD @timrileywriting.bsky.social · 22/06/2026

Starting work on my #warhammer Underworlds Ironjawz! Base coats all done on the first guy, with some shading, and layering done on the blue-black armour. Will finish highlighting that before moving onto the skin and yellow armour

So I finally bought a steam deck after not playing games for like 2 years since my PC died. I never thought basic gaming controls was a skill I could forget after 20 years haha and yet I struggled to hit a zombie

Does anyone else do a #ttrpg lore game in google docs with their friends? Or just my table? Haha

I just realised there must be close to a thousand #comicbook issues collected in the volumes on my shelf! I wonder how many I would have if I added it all up (and my digital comics)

Still in a rage about Meanjin closing, I decided to use that energy for good and submitted six stories to various mags yesterday. We love writing, we love Australian literature. We need *more* Australian writing spaces, not less

TimmyD @timrileywriting.bsky.social · 05/09/2025

The decision to close Meanjin is really bad, sad and terrible. 85 years of Australia’s literary history shut down for University profits :(

Had a small game of #warhammer Age of Sigmar on the weekend. My Ironjawz v my mate’s Flesh-Eaters. Loving 4E so far

Usually I tend to lose steam pretty early on a longer writing project, but this Novel has me by the pen. Nearly 45K words in a little over two months is insane progress for me

TimmyD @timrileywriting.bsky.social · 19/07/2025

I’m smashing my #writing goal so far. I’ve never written this many words, this quickly. I started this on the 10th of May! My last attempt at a novel took four years to get 70K words, and was such a harrowing experience I still haven’t gone back to it 😂

TimmyD @timrileywriting.bsky.social · 23/06/2025

Hey, is the fact that a LOT of popular #writing software now has AI built-in going to affect creative contracts? If a TTRPG or Book publisher has a no AI policy, will they stop accepting submissions in word doc?

020

TimmyD @timrileywriting.bsky.social · 29/05/2025

Just over 3k words this week added across my #writing projects. Hoping to get up over 5K by Sunday morning!

TimmyD @timrileywriting.bsky.social · 22/05/2025

Hey #daggerheart friends, so I might be missing something, but how is the roll to hit your evasion, then taking damage and seeing where that falls on your damage threshold to see how much damage you actually take, and then spending armour to reduce that by 1… good?

So, we all build wikis to procrastinate the work of ‘novel writing’, yes? #writingcommunity

Anyone else discovered trackbear? I don’t need an app to track my #writing goals but the leaderboard thing is something neat I’d never thought of.

So my #dnd5e prep for next session is done! And hopefully, it'll be an absolute hoot! Last session, the party arrived in the Gothic city of Carneath to discover the identity of the Hand of Vecna (a leader and treasurer of the Cult of Vecna), and stop them. The cult seek Vecna's return, and...

#writing really is all about re-writing. No matter your style or voice, making your writing as lean as suitable makes a huge difference. This week I cut a 3700 word short story down to a 2500 word story, and it’ll much stronger. Lean, like premium beef mince.

Am I… accidentally #writing a novella? This was supposed to be a nice 4000 word story, but it’s currently at 11K, and no end in sight!

I want to share my experience today with Google support, trying to get Gemini (their AI/plagiarism machine) turned off in my Google workspace account. That account is where I personally do all my work communication—I am an editor, and most of my work contracts explicitly ban any use of Generative AI

Time to start my #dnd5e prep for 2025. Getting back into the DMs seat. The first campaign arc of the year will have it all! Vampires, gothic city, a murderous masquerade, and a band of delightfully delinquent Dhampir goblins.
