Found this pair of broze, original candle pillars by sculptor Rod Kagan (1940-2010) at a charity shop back in February. Fell in love with them instantly, and kept checking back because the price was expensive. This month, I was able to snag them under a 50% off promo. They'll be with me forever.

#MidsummerScream 2026 was only a week ago, but I miss it so much already. I had the very best time and saw so many delightful characters, both cosplayers and official performers. This event is not only the "world's largest" Halloween and horror convention, it's also one of the best.

Experimenting with flavor in my foccacia. I tried sundried tomato, Asiago cheese, and thyme as toppings. Flavors were good, but I'm curious about integrating more thoroughly into the bread. Next time I'll fold them in during leavening. But my crumb structure is getting good!

This Saturday, I followed up by trying my hand at foccacia. Really pleased with the crumb on this. Airy, but not quite as large as the pan de cristal. More consistent overall. Crust was solid but less crunchy.

Last week, my friends taught me how to make 'pan de cristal.' It has a delicate hard crust and a moist, open crumb. Absolutely delicious.

So...my local grocery store inexplicably had Halloween Squishmallows in their clearance section for $3. Now my Halloween bear, Omar, has a bull boyfriend named Jefferson. I'm pretty sure they cuddle watching monster movies. Omar also talks Jeff out of an ill-advised septum piercing.

Black Friday always makes me itchy. Corporations want you to feel dissatisfied with what you already have, scratching with a new purchase. Today, I'm styling what I already own in a different way...intentional enjoying "enough." Collar pop and rolling the sleeves yields a new look.

Long time since my last post. I just wanted to acknowledge that the Supreme Court's decision to decline the Kim Davis marriage equality case does allow me a sigh of relief. But I still won't feel completely reassured during this administration. They have made cruelty their signature.

With Obergerfell on the chopping block, it's getting very personal. Over the past few years, I have stood by my husband through diabetic complications, a brain condition, dementia, and three brain surgeries. This is what marriage is about...commitment. But they can strip away our rights? 😥

Dadvice: Car wouldn't start. Dash didn't light up, so I was 90% sure it was a dead battery. Called AAA and they had a service rep out in 20 minutes. Swapping the battery was quick, and there was no additional cost for installation. Dad says, get AAA. It's worth it when you need it most.

We already have comic book level Villains. Maybe we'll have real life superheroes to combat them. (Honestly, though, it'll really take us all doing our part. We have to save ourselves.)

The in-progress coup attempt of this country is overwhelming and somehow still surprising. Not that it's happening, but that it's so transparent and brazen. I wish I had a clearer sense of how to combat it as a regular citizen.

So many feelings. LA burns. We're so lucky to be pre-emptively sheltering with friends. My husband's mobility makes a late stage evacuation very risky. So I'm doom scrolling, thankful and anxious all the same. Worried about an apartment full of stuff while also feeling shameful about attachment.
