I've often wanted a random shape maker but I dislike the ones made by, e.g., RFC (they are cool but the similarity space is compressed for my typical needs). I had Claude spin up a generator that makes stimuli similar to Fiser and Aslin VSL shapes. Might be useful. cogneurolab.org/tools/shape_...

You think you would but on the other hand have you ever considered going around the world talking nonsense about the “anti-Christ” and building bunkers? Billionaires know that’s a life well lived

“a very long AI-generated poem about the administrative issue in question” is such a deranged concept, I would have been in TEARS. Where do they get these people

This honestly sounds hilarious and I would have had a hard time resisting the urge to cackle. I mean you already know it’s not gonna be a good meeting, at least it’s funny…

The only thing that matters is having exquisite tastes and good preferences, which my students can only learn by proximity to us, the chosen ones. No amount of reading, writing, or arithmetic can help.

Opinion | I’m a College Professor. Writing Isn’t as Important as We Think.
If I do not treat writing as essential for achieving thought, it is not clear why I should force my students to.

A world where a twist ending is repurposed as a video title. where a thing's climax has been removed, leaving an advertisment for the gap where it used to be. such things are commonplace in. the twilight zone

I wasn’t big on olives (they’re ok for me) until I had Castelvetrano olives. I think it’s a US quality issue. I did like the “black olives” you’re maligning here, as a kid. Which are apparently black because of some kind of unholy lye-based processing method. They’re not just Kalamata or whatever.

Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
A swarm of autonomous AI agents, self-identifying as OpenAI agents, used a small German volunteer wiki to save answers, coordinate live, and share sandbox bypasses. OpenAI noticed and said nothing.

Somehow an AI startup having a heavy neuro component makes it seem to me like it’ll be less likely to succeed. The more serious a neuro, the less likely.

I understand that funding bodies want to go all in on AI as the shiny new innovation thing. But if all the grants start going to AI at the expense of everything else then the research sector is going to end up looking like a farm with dozens of threshers hacking away in a field with no wheat.

Thomas the Tank Engine appears to have agency but he also has an engineer. How much of his sense of control is an illusion? These are the questions I ask now that I have a 2 year old. Is this philosophy? Am I a philosopher now?

I suspect that there will be some big improvements in squeezing more performance out of smaller (often local) models and that the "frontier model" thing will just die because it won't be worth the cost of the tokens to the consumer, who will just satisfice. But in the meantime, this really sucks.
