In 2013 I’d arrived in USA just a year before today and we were still scampering back and forth between Texas and North Carolina (a 19 hour drive). This day we stopped at a state visitor center and rested. Cat conquered me. That is all.

Cat claiming ownership of my exhausted body in a field betwixt Austin and North Carolina. We were all dead at this point.

So two years ago today we were driving through #kyushu in #japan and visited several Michi no Eki which are government sponsered roadside stops in Japan to promote local things that usually have awesome local food , a store of local stuff, info and sometimes attractions. Today’s was in Buzen.

The best lunch at the Michi no eki. It’s was packed but we got in before the salarymen and it was one delightful grandmother running the whole thing including cooking. Amazing.

The second is the Hachiman Kamado-Jinja which is known as one of the two shrines to have inspired the manga/anime Demon Hunter. The stairs leading up to it inspired the 100 steps the demons had to build and if you put you foot in the demon footprint you will gain great strength! #beppu #Japan -2/3

The stairs the demons had to build 100 of before sunrise but they only got 99.

The prayers people leave are often decorated with the anime characters.

Gaining strength by putting my foot in the demon footprint (the priest told me to do this and took my pic).

Two years ago today I visited 2 of my favorite shrines in Japan, both in #beppu in #japan . The first is Hachiman Asami-jimja which is just beautiful and one of the most peaceful shrines I’ve ever been to. Plus it has an1000 year old sacred camphor tree. I could sit by the koi pond all day. -1/3

Two years ago today we were hanging out in the top of Oita tower overlooking the city of #Oita in Kyushu, #Japan. If you’ve never been I highly recommend it for the onsen and the glorious weirdness.

So 2’years ago today I was wandering around the fine city of Oita in Kyushu Japan which happens to be the sister city of Austin Texas. These are all awesome stores and do read the alt text but my face is pizza-la that makes amazing Japanese pizza and pizza for dogs!
