The clown at the beginning of Circus Boy. I mean, who thought kids (or anyone) would be amused by clowns, for God's sake?

I love this one in particular:

A pedestrian underpass in Glenrothes. Around the square tunnel opening are the edges of a mobile phone and it is being held by two giant hands.

There's also the strange phenomenon by which stuff you make up reads as more realistic than the stuff you took from life. But I agree, it's all about expanding your abilities, your knowledge, your empathy.

I think I'm going to give up trying to play jazz piano. I'll wait till I'm 95 and start a heavy metal band instead. #Shatner

Sparta is again being cited as a wonderful example of warrior culture. 1) Sparta became militarized because it feared its own slaves 2) as a result, it had no culture, no arts, etc 3) it went to war with (very cultured) Athens -- and lost.

Reading history, and amazed at the number of people who die and no-one's really sure what they died of. Diagnostics have come a long, long way in the last 100 years.

In a few days it'll be John Coltrane's birthday and the 100th anniversary of his birth. Our local jazz station is already celebrating the 100th year John Coltrane centennial.

You said it first of all: "the silliest sci-fi scenarios". The problem is, AI I being over-hyped -- and I presume, because someone thinks they will make huge amounts of money, before the bubble bursts. The effect on the environment is another matter. "Kill all humans"? By accident, maybe.

I'm no expert, but it seems to me this is not even "intelligence" at all -- it's simply data-crunching on a massive scale, looking for the most likely outcomes.

We have billionaires who do absolutely nothing for humanity. And we have -- or had -- Dolly Parton, who helped thousands -- maybe millions -- with her work. The wrong person got taken, beyond a doubt.

Follow the money: Musk keeps calling Hitler a "socialist" in an effort to discredit socialist (or social democrat policies) because he doesn't want to pay more tax. It's very simple.

I have now seen The Odyssey. It's not Homer's Odyssey, it's Nolan's, and continues some of his themes from Dunkirk. It's wonderfully, unsettlingly brilliant, a chronicle of regret and fear, and in places deeply moving. Don't expect your standard sword-n-sandal epic.
