Happy 25th Anniversary to Drive-By Truckers' "Southern Rock Opera"! I have thoughts and feelings about it (you may have to read the alt-text, especially in the white text section). Some (Southern) Rock The Fuck Out! #RTFO to follow this evening.

"I always forget for most of the day that 9/11 is also the release anniversary for one of the true masterpieces of American music: Drive-By Truckers "Southern Rock Opera".

In WHITE: "Personal, evocative, equal parts poetry, diary, fury, laughter, regret, sadness, beauty, grit and yes, pride, it's still a wonder to listen to 25 years later.

Pensacola showed UP today! Proud of my getting-bluer-by-the-minute town. Hundreds and hundreds of people with too many ferocious signs to get pictures of. #nokings

Case in point: apparently, there's some kind of Graffiti Bridge board that has placed themselves in charge, and enacted some rules (similar to President Diapers' executive orders) that restrict art to "approved" designs. Pensacola's response?

My town's got some uncool history (Doctors murdered over abortion, Matt Gaetz), but it's outshined by its cool history (decades of an outsized punk/indie scene, the 309 punk house), like our 17th Ave Graffiti Bridge. It's gotten fancy over the years, but it's never outgrown its guerilla-art roots.
