Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 24/09/2026If you are looking for a quick list of who not to vote for this municipal election, the current EPC is a good place to start. Vote them all out. (Note Lukes isn't running) 140
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Remember when in June 2024 there was an HR audit at city hall that reported that 67 per cent of the city's workers had not completed a formal job performance assessment and J Lukes said it was "just earth-shattering," and we never heard about it again? Let's add a new ill defined department. 140
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Yeah, technically that is a different type of construction, but the point stands, Gillingham has been a horrible mayor. His list of failures is long and his accomplishments are few. 020
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 22/09/2026In case there was any doubt about who Gillingham works for during election season. Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Yes. That is the reason ST makes more sense. Set the clock for our region accurately and then solve the problem school start times of flexibility of work hours for families as the actual problem that needs to be solved. 020
Reposted by Tim FennellAndrew Kohan @akohan.bsky.social · 17/09/2026The whole point of daylight “savings” is that the summer months have a surplus of morning daylight that can be moved to the evening to reduce lighting costs. But the winter months have a shortage of daylight in the morning already, so this is just spending further into debt, with lives on the line. 153
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Permanent standard time would have been the correct decision. Really the people debating for DST are debating the merits of flexible work hours or 9-5 vs 8-4 workdays. Currently only about 8% of Canadians work within a strict 9-5 pattern and that number is falling. 030
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Finally, at city hall they measure the success of the WPS based on the number of calls they responded to. (And allocate funds accordingly) As if responding to more calls is good. We are solving for the wrong metric. At this point our money is better spent on reducing the need for calls. 010
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Of course, we should consider the police can't solve the underlying issues we are experiencing in downtown Winnipeg. (And across the city) Poverty, homelessness, access to mental health support, and addictions. Police are not the right tool to solve these problems. 150
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Interestingly we have one of the highest rates of spending on police among large cities in Canada, but we have a below average number of police per resident when compared to those cities. 150
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 16/09/2026At what point do conservative voters start asking if we are getting enough value for the hundreds of millions of dollars we are spending on the WPS each year? 290

Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I'm really hoping we get fresh and more progressive thinkers at city hall this fall. Nobody can deny that the status quo approaches of Winnipeg career politicians has failed to create a thriving city. 031
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 01/09/2026I also don't understand how the WSD doesn't see this practice as a massive legal liability. My mom was a principal in Ontario and when she first saw this in Winnipeg she immediately said, there is no way their board would allow it given the risks. 010
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Views from the ViaRail Canadian between Armstrong and Allanwater Bridge Ontario. This is Thunder Bay wildfire 36. Which is actually a few fires that merged. 3012 square kilometres burned and still not under control. 010
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Also having students as traffic patrols is absurd. We are shifting the risk and responsibility on to the kids because we didn't want to inconvenience drivers. 130

Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 08/07/2026Instead of spending billions hundreds of billions on an oil pipeline that can only carry one product in one direction, (only while oil is valuable) we should be twinning the two main CP and CN lines from coast to coast so freight and passenger services can move freely in both directions. 030

Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 29/06/2026No man, that was sarcasm. Of course the parking spaces are negligible. In my city we can't get bike lanes, bus lanes, pedestrian corridors without business going nuts about a few parking spots. 2160

Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 15/06/2026It can, but we need more emissions free capacity. Currently our government is planning to build a new gas generating plant to meet demands. Of course I don't support that route. We should be leaning into wind, solar, hydro, and nuclear. Most of our grid is already powered with hydro. 100
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 15/06/2026I'm specifically talking about the Manitoba energy grid which our provincial government controls. Even in the short term we have agency over how energy is produced inside our province, we can't as easily control imported fuels. 200
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 15/06/2026You can trace if the electricity is green if the entire grid is green. Which could be the case in Manitoba if they don't build a new gas plant and close down remaining gas plants. 100
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 15/06/2026The problem with hydrogen is that hydrogen is hydrogen. Hydrogen isolated using green energy is exactly chemically identical to all other hydrogen. So it becomes difficult, when trading internationally, if the hydrogen is actually clean. 100
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 15/06/2026But when there is a far cheaper non-green alternative, when you scale it up, the cheaper option tends to win over the green option. 200
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 15/06/2026So in my view, alternative fuels that you plan to burn should be used only for things like jets and rockets where batteries charged with emissions from power are simply not viable. 100
Tim Fennell @timfennell.bsky.social · 15/06/2026But the truth about hydrogen is that most hydrogen produced at an industrial scale is simply a product of the fossil fuels industry. Alternative fuels are great, but without good controls, things can go off the rails and you end up back at the start. 300
