For a long time I've wanted a sense of how trump has or hasn't interacted with chatbots (we know he posts a lot of slop sure). And this TIME anecdote about Grok arguably leading Trump into war is just extremely bracing
Since returning to office, Trump has marveled at AI’s capabilities. He is increasingly in thrall to the tech executives courting him. In December 2025, Elon Musk returned to the Oval Office for a clandestine meeting. Trump spent hours asking Grok, Musk’s AI chatbot, questions about his presidency and legacy, according to an official present. At the time, Trump was ordering missile strikes against Venezuelan boats he alleged were smuggling drugs into the U.S. He asked Grok how Venezuelans would react if the U.S. captured Maduro. According to the official present, the chatbot responded that Maduro was a repressive and deeply unpopular dictator and that many Venezuelans would likely celebrate his downfall. After Trump ordered the mission to seize Maduro, the following month, celebrations broke out in the streets. Trump, according to officials, came away thinking Grok was ingenious.

Greetings from Australia! We’re really sorry if sending those F-35 components via Hong Kong was our fault in some way. Given Trump is offering to sell arms to China, is the F-35 thing such a big deal? (We’re also really sorry about Rupert Murdoch.)

Doing laundry doesn’t require an actual laundry. Socks, underwear, tshirts and shirts can all be washed in your hotel bathroom. Having the right kind of clothes can make that easier (so it’s a bit late for your current trip). Here’s a great guide from an expert: youtu.be/pwTa2riSCy0

Labor has no aspirations other than to be (re)elected to government, and being better than the alternative is all that they have to achieve to do that. So being better than the alternative is their highest aspiration. It’s pathetic.

One of the stubborn dynamics in climate politics is conservatives being simply unwilling to believe that their ideological opponents were/are right about something very important. Lots of conservatives really did covince themselves it was all a conspiracy to impose more government control.

Four frames. 1. Terns on a beach. One says to another, “I feel sick.” 2. A fur seal on a beach beside lots of dead birds thinks, “I feel sick.” 3. A woman reads a series of news headline placards with “BIRD FLU JUMPS SPECIES”, “MORE HEAT WAVES, FIRES”, “NO END OF WARS”; she thinks, “I feel sick”. 4. The world, with fires and explosions everywhere, thinks, “I feel sick.”

When you say “the vaccine”, do you mean the one used in western countries that can’t cause polio, or the cheaper one that’s easier to administer used in the global south that can actually cause polio? Because one of those isn’t that good. We should be vaccinating everyone with the safer one.
