Trauma therapist here, who has worked with GSW patients! Not sure if there is any empirical evidence to confirm, but anecdotally, overhearing “GSW” is less stressful than “gunshot wound” for patients who just had the worst day of their life, but still understood by all the medical staff. Hence GSW

I would want to know these things about a new place if I were moving cross country! And generic HR-built website or resource packets will be implicitly an advert to come work there. So it will gloss over stuff like “preschool waitlists are insane in neighborhood X, you’ll need to commute to Y”

As I was playing, I got a sort of intuition about how many points I was going to need to see revealed before I felt confident enough to make the call (and get my score for the round): strong, consistent effects = faster certainty; noisy effects = need more sample to call it.

These are superb! The correlation game especially - by making the score tied to how quickly you can guess the direction & strength of the r, it really hammers home how power (and thus sample size determination) is about certainty & probability.

Studies w/ primate models are extremely difficult & expensive, and get questioned by folks squeamish about animal research the less those animals look like “disposable vermin”. But (incredible!!!) findings like this are why we need them - mice physiologies can differ in *critical* ways
