Today we had a walk in the sunshine, saw lots of spring flowers, catkins and five fluffy goslings 🌞🌷
White blossoms with five petals each and pink centres, on spindly branches with bright blue sky behind

Nice that we got a cheerful photo before we knew Brentford would lose to Plymouth...
A selfie of a white man and woman with the pitch behind them at the Brentford Community stadium. He has a dark beard, is wearing a hat and sunglasses and drinking a cup of Bovril, and she has ginger hair, glasses and a hat on and is smiling delightedly.

The Cracked Mirror by Chris Brookmyre was my first book of 2025 and I cannot recommend it enough. Will definitely have to re-read at some point to fully take in all the wit and cleverness.
Audiobook cover of The Cracked Mirror by Chris Brookmyre. Underneath the title reads 'Two detectives who should never have met. One case that can't exist'

I know it's time, but I will really miss our Christmas tree once we've taken it down tomorrow. It has brought a lot of brightness and cosiness this winter.
A Christmas tree in a living room, covered in fairy lights giving a warm bright glow and many colourful decorations.

Saw Wicked this afternoon, went back to my parents' and my sister and I serenaded the cat with personalised versions of the songs. She had this deadpan look the entire time, not sure she was impressed, but at least she didn't run away...
Poppy, a gingery blonde cat with a pointy face and stripy tail is sitting primly on a staircase landing. Her tail is resting on her front paws and she has an unamused expression on her face.

Bonus book I enjoyed in 2024 that I realised wasn't on my list - absolutely lovely book.

Before today I didn't know you could get darning maracas. I don't have any imminent sock darning to do, but just had to get it... 🪇

The Channel 4 synopses of ER are generally ok, but the first one here reads like the beginning of an exam question
ER series three episode previews in the Channel 4 app. The description for S3E2 is 'if Jeanie pays for HIV treatment through her medical insurance, her employer will know'. The following episodes' descriptions are 'Greene and Lewis's romance develops while Anspaugh institutes a strict regime of rules' and 'Ross finds his reckless personal life leads to tragedy and Carter annoys Benton'

Twixtmas Sunday has been perfect - two-hour walk, finished my book, peeled all the sellotape off the Christmas wrapping to recycle it, and have been presented with a cheese and tomato pastry and a Frangelico milkshake by @norramot.bsky.social ✨

Raclette and festive football can only be improved if Brentford get at least a point out of it 😂🐝

Thinking about this pigeon I made friends with today. By 'made friends with', I mean I gave it some pastry and it sat next to me until we got up and left, just in case I gave it some more. (I did).
A fat, majestic wood pigeon, standing on a brick wall. It is lit by the early morning sun, with a cloud-streaked blue sky behind it. The pigeon has its head turned away from the sun and eyes closed as in satisfaction

It's been seven years since I drew this for @norramot.bsky.social for our first Christmas together, as we used to say that we were a good pair/ pear. It's so nice that it now lives in our shared home 🍐
A framed illustration titled 'Encyclopeardia'. There are nine watercolour illustrations of pears each with a title. The first is Chinese pear, with a Chinese pear waving a Chinese flag. The second is Comice pear, with a Comice pear reading a copy of Viz. The third is a Concorde pear, holding a small model plane. Fourth is Conference pear, wearing a collar and tie. Fifth is a partridge in a pear tree. Sixth is Pear Drop, with a pink pear drop sweet harnessed in a parachute. Seventh is poached pear, with a dark pink pear holding a glass of red wine. Seventh is prickly pear, with a speech bubble saying ouch. Last is Williams pear, which has a sweat band and a tennis racket.

My partner has made me a selection of personal reaction stickers for whatsapp, we use them all the time 😂
Four custom WhatsApp stickers, all featuring a white woman with ginger hair. In one she has a head torch and a stupid grin and there is text saying 'oh yes!' in the second she is grinning and wearing sunglasses, with text saying 'useful!' underneath. The third has a close up of her face, wearing glasses and looking very interested. In the fourth she is wearing a red swimsuit and sunglasses, kicking one leg up and making a ta-da gesture with her arms

I have clearly learnt no lessons about over-committing myself from my mother, so have already baked a cake this morning, as I won't have time before Thursday with visitors today and volunteering tomorrow...

This week I worked out I could make snowflakes with words written in the pattern and I am very satisfied with this... ❄️

Feeling very lucky that none of my plans were derailed by Storm Darragh today, and we got to enjoy the twinkly lights of festive London (and a mulled cider).
The London Southbank at night, viewed from a footbridge across the river. There are twinkly lights along the bank and pink purple and green reflected in the water from illuminated buildings

Was inspired to start this kit after seeing so much cross stitch on here - hadn't realised how much I missed it 🪡

Listened to the audiobook of this last year, read by Bahni Turpin (one of my favourite readers) and really enjoyed it

Have really enjoyed seeing lots of cross stitch posts on here so had a look back on some of my past projects. Had completely forgotten I designed a pattern for and then stitched Shrek 😂

Lifelong Londoner and I'd never seen Fenchurch Street Station, didn't even know if it was still operating - came across it by accident today and was delighted.

Never really found my posting groove in the other place, so being here is a good opportunity to just embrace posting things that make me happy. Nature, blue sky (no pun intended) and sunshine - lovely.
