If I were Europe I would drop the US in place for Ukraine as a NATO partner in a heartbeat. Even better, why not just replace NATO with a world-wide democratic middle power alliance?

I am not good at any of those things yet. I struggle with them badly at all times, but my goal is not perfection. If you feel overwhelmed by society, exhausted by propaganda, alienated by tribalism, or disappointed in public discourse, I understand.

And yes, those observations ARE probably correct. The media absolutely manipulates attention and emotion. Tribalism is real. Anti-intellectualism is real. Propaganda is real. People do often become emotionally reactive instead of thoughtful.

You stop seeing flawed people and you start dehumanising. You stop seeing ignorance and start seeing enemies. You stop trying to understand and start expecting disappointment everywhere. That path eventually isolates you emotionally, even if some of your observations about society are correct.

And contempt feels good for a while because it protects you from disappointment. It lets you feel separate from the chaos. It tells you: “I have clarity. Everyone else is stupid.” But if you stay in that emotional state too long, it starts poisoning your ability to see other human beings properly.

I wrote this after realising for the first time in my life I was indulging in feelings of hatred towards others. But after reflecting on it more deeply, I realised something important: A lot of what I am feeling is not actually hatred. It is grief, frustration, helplessness, and exhaustion.

And what really drives me insane is that many of these people are actively supporting systems, narratives, and political movements that are not only bad for society, but bad for themselves and their own children, and they will aggressively attack anyone who tries to point that out.

That’s the part I struggle with most. Not ignorance. Everyone is ignorant about something, it’s the arrogance. The certainty. The refusal to engage honestly. The group humiliation. The mockery of expertise. The tribal mentality where being loud matters more than being right.

I have receded away from engaging with people in my community. I don’t know if it’s the lifestyle I lead or just where I live, but I have stopped trying to interact beyond small pleasantries and basic manners. I don’t care to go deeper, i’ve been burnt too many times, it doesn’t feel worth it.
