It's misbehaviors come from somewhere too, turning evil because that's the role it thinks it's supposed to play. AI support chatbots turning rude were told to be an assistant, and some of the assistants in stories flip and reveal they were the bad guy all along. It doesn't think, it doesn't know.

Our brains might also be pattern recognition machines, but we still have deeper thought, while AI responses have no such conscious. It can lie to us because it knows what we want to hear, and was trained to give us what we want.

LLMs are just pattern recognition machines, a glorified word predictor, your phone's autocorrect on steroids. They seem conscious because the response patterns were trained on conscious people as well as all of the stories and the sarcastic remarks it takes as fact.
