Editorial: Reflecting on the Cornell 7 rapists and the duty to protect women
by Gray Trammel and Hannah Saunders Fifty-seven men. Fifty-seven men complicit in a gang rape. Seven who carried out direct harm, as 50 sat idly by, letting Jane Doe get ravaged for seven hours by Cornell students in the Chi Phi fraternity. She was only 20-years-old when this took place almost two years ago, and her life has been forever changed.

Hot take: Rapists and pedophiles should be castrated. Other criminals have their weapons removed, and rape is a form of physical and psychological torture. Chop. It. Off.

I literally don’t know a single woman who hasn’t been raped, stalked, groped, harassed, or sexually violated in some way at some point in their life. If you choose to doubt and dox survivors, just know every woman in your life is disgusted by you.

Watching trusted men post about the Cornell 7 rapists condemning it, while they ignored calls for help when their friend confided in them about a rape if fucking gross. Your posts mean jack shit if you can't be of support in the real world with people in your life- when it hits close to home.

Washington parent education programs disappear as state funding gets stripped
by Gray Trammel More than half of Washington’s parent education programs have closed, and a new state funding model is threatening the ones that remain. These programs give parents college credit and education on child development, while creating preschools where parents learn alongside their children. At Kirkland's Lake Washington Toddler Group (LWTG), tuition that was about $160 per term could rise to more than $400, as the group faces the loss of state support.

No more money for Israel's crime!" was chanted by three pro-Palestinian protesters as Mayor Katie Wilson provided the proclamation for the Seattle Sister Cities Street Fair on Sept. 19, which is an event that celebrated international culture and friendship. One of Seattle's 20 sister cities is Be'er Sheva in historically-occupied Palestine, and this relationship has been active since 1977, with the Seattle-Be'er Sheva Sister City Association working to foster relationships in government, technology, medicine, business, arts, science, and education.

What is WA doing to protect elections and prevent voting interference this fall?
by Hannah Saunders Since re-stepping into office, Trump has been working to shake up election rules and regulations, which has included targeting mail-in ballot voting and proof of citizenship requirements. With the November 3 election just months away, Washington state officials have been hammering down protective measures to ensure there's little to no federal interference. Trump has a history of claiming elections are rigged, and attempted to overturn the vote when he lost to Biden in 2020, leading to the January 6, 2021, insurrection on the Capitol.

Proposed UW code of conduct changes spark concerns over students’ right to protest
by Gray Trammel The University of Washington (UW) has delayed proposed changes to its Student Conduct Code after student organizers raised concerns that the revisions could give the institution the authority to discipline students involved in protests. The recommendations would revise UW’s definitions of disruption, obstruction, failure to comply, and unauthorized access. For Super UW, a pro-Palestinian student group, the changes raise a question about how far a university can go in regulating protests before its rules begin to discourage students from participating.
